Our library’s newly redesigned website falls into thesecond category. This new online face of thelibrary is visually appealing, but, more importantly,

it is much easier to use! Here are some features.

Notice the words or phrases just above the three imageson the first page of the website. These are: Using theLibrary, Catalog/Account, Research, Services, Events,About Us. This is a horizontal navigation bar. Just hoveryour mouse over any of these words or phrases and adrop down menu will appear.

As an example, hovering your mouse over Using theLibrary gives you a selection of links including fourcategory headings. All the category headings and linksare active. Clicking on any one of them will get you tothat relevant portion of our website. For example, hovering your mouse over Using the Library and thenclicking on Member Information will take you to a pagewhere you can click on links giving information on topicssuch as getting a library card, the checkout periods ofmaterials, and library locations.

Hovering your mouse over Catalog/Account gives youan easy path to the library catalog (of course), but alsoan easy way to get to the section of our website dealingwith borrowing library eBooks - the DownloadableCollections.dable Collections link.On a final note, it is now very easy to find out what isgoing on at your local branch! Hover your mouse overthe word Events and then click on your branch. This putsyou in a calendar of events for that branch for thecurrent month. Clicking on an event will give you moreinformation, and, in many cases, also allows you toregister for that activity.

I’m really enjoying this new experience of our virtuallibrary presence, and I think you will too. Yes, sometimeschange is fantastic!

Our Newest Branch Opens on Rutgers Campus in CamdenUnique model of communitylibrary in an academic setting

serves urban residents

From its lively colors to the computer stations andcommunity room, our newest branch on theRutgers-Camden campus in the Paul Robeson

Library welcomes our customers and the public.

The project represents a successful collaboration between

the university, the county and the library system in their effort

to provide library services directly to the residents of Camden’s

downtown neighborhoods.

“The space is beautifully designed and the partnership

with Rutgers-Camden will allow us to work together to provide

unique programming and educational opportunities,” points

out Ms. Devlin.

The new branch features a 20 seat state-of-the-art

computer classroom, a space dedicated to children’s

programming, and 22 additional computers for public use,

while offering the most popular, in demand current fiction,

nonfiction, movies and periodicals.

Freeholder Leonard credits Ms. Devlin for adding her

expertise to the plan. “She led a team that transformed a

5,000 square-foot space into a state-of-the-art library that

serves everyone from toddlers to high school and college

students, jobs seekers and seniors.”

“The partnership with Rutgers-Camden will result in

innovative programming as the library’s staff collaborates with

staff from Rutgers Center for Early Childhood Development

and Future Scholars Program,” said Ms. Devlin, who anticipates

the new branch will have a

profound impact and benefit

on the neighborhoods it

serves.

She told the assembled

guests and onlookers at the

grand opening event, “A

library is hope, promise and

renewal. It makes powerful

changes in people’s lives.”

Our newest branch is open and operational!

It is located at 5th and Penn Streets on the

The Walking Dead,Volume 15: WeFind Ourselvesby Robert Kirkman,Charles Adlard,Cliff Rathburn

Image Comics –Skybound

AMC TV’s new series The Walking Dead, which just completed its secondseason, is a bona fide hit, earning thehighest ratings for any basic cable TVseries, according to the network. Butthat’s only part of the story.

You can experience the origin of theplucky group of survivors of the zombieapocalypse in the pages of TheWalking Dead comic book, written byRobert Kirkman and published monthlyby Image Comics. It’s gathered intographic novel reprint format every 6issues or so. The Camden CountyLibrary System owns almost all of the 15trade paperback volumes of the storyso far.

You can read the graphic novelcompletely on its own if you wish, as it isone of the best monthly comic bookseries currently being published. Sincethe TV series occasionally diverges fromthe storyline in the comics, an extraadded dimension of reading thegraphic novels is recognizing thosestoryline differences and talking withother fans about it.

Volume 15 of the graphic novel reprintscovers numbers 85-90 of the comicbook series and proceeds from astunningly major cliffhanger in thesaga. It finds the crew of survivorsstruggling to rebuild their communityand reinforce their safety againsthordes of zombies. Many of thecharacters also have major obstaclesto overcome in their personal lives, andthis makes for some very dramaticsituations.

If you are not already a fan of The Walking Dead comics, now is theperfect time to come on board andfollow as the television series continuesits streak of popularity.

We loved this

book!!! Tyler Steele is part of a dying

breed – an American cowboy who still

believes in the good in people and his

responsibility to help those who can’t

help themselves. One night he meets

Sam and her daughter Hope. They

are desperately out of luck and in

need of help and Tyler just can’t walk

away, despite his own trials and

tribulations. This is a great read that

makes you believe there may still be

heroes in the world.

May the RoadRise Up to MeetYouby Peter Troy

Published in February of this year,Troy’s debut novel is historical fictionat its best.

Spanning the first major wave of Irishimmigration to New York through theend of the Civil War, this is anengrossing, epic American dramatold from four different perspectives:Ethan McOwen, an Irish immigrantwho faces growing up in Brooklynand the Five Points and is among thefirst to join the famed Irish Brigadeduring the Civil War; Marcella, notyour run-of-the-mill society girl fromSpain who becomes a passionateabolitionist; Mary, a gifted seamstress, and Micah, a remarkable carpenterand craftsman, both southern slaveswho embark on a tumultuous path tofreedom. Each character is so well-written, I couldn’t wait to read whathappened to them next. All fourstories come together slowly andeventually collide.

Pick it up if you’re in the mood for afun, engrossing and educationalread. It has everything: greatcharacters, love, war, and history. I couldn’t put it down.

A high school student attends a library program, meets otherteens who share the same interests, and makes connectionsand friendships.
