Dual Enrollment Points of Interest for Parents and Students:

• A Dual Enrollment advisement session with the school counselor is mandatory. Students, parents/guardians, and the school counselor must complete and sign the Student Participation Agreement during the advisement session.

• Students must make annual progress toward graduation and completion of their Individual Graduation Plan to participate in the Dual Enrollment program.

• Completion of the state’s Dual Enrollment application found at www.gafutures.org is required for each semester of participation.

• Students must apply and be accepted to a participating eligible postsecondary institution based upon the college’s Dual Enrollment admissions criteria.

• College courses taken must count toward local and/or state high school graduation requirements.

• The Georgia Student Finance Commission will manage the funding and payments to the postsecondary institutions provided by annual state appropriations. Students and school counselors must submit their respective portions of the online Dual Enrollment application located at www.GAfutures.org prior to the end of each semester to secure funding.

• Courses do not count against any maximum hourly caps for the HOPE scholarships or grants.

• Dropping a course or not following program rules and regulations may result in students losing both credits, receiving a failing grade and/or being removed from the Dual Enrollment program; thus, affecting their high school graduation requirements.

• Eligible students may participate in high school competitive sports and clubs and other extracurricular events and activities.

LCSS Dual Enrollment Student Testimonials…

“Choosing to participate in dual enrollment was the best decision I made during my high school career. The classroom rigor and environment was more engaging, and I am confident that I will be college and career ready due to my genuine college experiences with dual enrollment. I’d encourage any dedicated students to pursue dual enrollment!!” – Sophia Rodriguez, BI Student "It's a great opportunity to save time and money on college classes while getting the credits you need for high school!" – Jasmine Anderson, LCHS Student “I started in the Dual Enrollment program in the summer before eleventh grade to get a feel for what it would be like during the school year. Although, it is more difficult than regular high school classes, I learned quickly that it was not as scary or hard as I had anticipated. My experience in the past three semesters has taught me so much mostly the importance of studying. By taking Dual Enrollment classes, it has given me a taste of what life after high school will be like and what I should expect when I get there.” – Alexander Hill, BI Student “Dual enrollment has allowed me to experience the feel for college while being in high school. It has given me a head start in my career at a young age and has taught me how to multi-task. An awesome opportunity to take free college classes as I got high school credits.” -- Meleina Davis, LCHS Student
