2013 HIGHS CAREER HIGHS

TONIGHT’S START: The 27-year-old right-hander is set to make his 24th start/26th appearance of the season in the second game of this 4-game series with the Minne-sota Twins, also the 35th start and 40th appearance of his career...will be pitching on regular 4 days’ rest after grabbing his career-best 4th consecutive victory in his last start on Sunday vs. Houston - the effort lowered his ERA to 2.66 (18 ER/61.0 IP) over his last 9 starts; has not shouldered a loss since June 27 at Baltimore...the Indians are 15-8 overall in games where he takes the bump, winning 6 of 7 and 8 of the last 10...has made 6 career starts vs. Minnesota, going 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA (14 ER/32.0 IP).

KLUBERING THE COMPETITION: Kluber was activated from the 15-day DL on Sep-tember 7th after being shelved since August 6th with a right-long middle finger sprain; has earned the win in 3 of his 4 starts since his activation - Cleveland is 4-0 in those games...owns a 2.96 ERA (9 ER/27.1 IP) over his last six games, and has not shoul-dered a loss since June 27 at Baltimore...has allowed 3 ER or less in 9 of his last 10 starts dating back to July 7th vs. Detroit; is 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA (18 ER/61.0 IP), 55 strikeouts, and just 16 walks over that span to lower his ERA from 4.33 to 3.61.

LAST START: Kluber notched his 10th victory of the season in his last start, as Cleve-land put the finishing touches on the club’s 4-game sweep over the Astro’s...Kluber re-tired the only batter he faced in the top of the 6th before giving way to the bullpen with a 3-2 lead (W, 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 1 HR, 81 pitches/52 strikes)...Cleveland hung a 4 spot on the board in the bottom of the 6th and went on to a 9-2 victory.

EVERYTHING’S UNDER CONTROL: Kluber has only surrendered 10 walks over his last 47.0 innings (1.9 BB/9.0IP) dating back to his start on July 20 at Minnesota, which included a stretch of 12.0 consecutive innings without a walk spanning over his starts from 7/26-8/5 – streak fell just 2 innings shy of matching his career-high streak of 15 consecutive innings without a walk, set earlier this season from May 15-26...Kluber has never walked more than 4 batters in an outing and is averaging just 2.3 walks per nine innings (53 BB/209.1 IP) in his career.

CAREER HIGH SCORELESS STREAK: Kluber strung together a career-high 14.2 consecutive scoreless streak spanning over his starts from July 12-26...worked 2 con-secutive scoreless outings from July 12 and July 20 (12.2 IP) and pitched 2.0 score-less frames in his start on July 26 vs. Texas before allowing a run in the 3rd.

I (STILL) LIKE MY CHANCES: The Tigers game-winning rally in the 9th in Kluber’s start on August 5th signaled the first time the Tribe has lost a game when Kluber offers up a quality start; entering that outing, the Indians were 10-0 when Kluber completes at least 6.0 innings with 3 earned runs or less.

AFTER A LOSS: Kluber is 5-1 with a 2.59 ERA (18 ER/62.2 IP) in 10 starts following a Tribe loss this season...Cleveland is 7-3 in games that Kluber has started after a team loss…the Tribe righty has stopped losing streaks of 8, 4, 3 and a pair of 2 game slides.

VS. MINNESOTA/AT TARGET FIELD: Is 1-1 with a 3.31 ERA (14 ER/32.0 IP) in 6 career starts/appearances against the Twins...last faced Minnesota on Juky 20 here at Target Field and did not factor into the Tribe’s 3-2 loss despite tossing 5.0 shutout innings and fanning 7 (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R-ER, 2 BB, 7 SO, 93 pitches/55 strikes)...has made 2 career starts at Target Field, allowing 4 earned runs over 8.2 frames.

JUST A WALK IN THE PARK: Kluber was the starting pitcher in back-to-back walk of victories for the Tribe on July 26th and July 31; Carlos Santana gave the club its 9th such win with a 10th inning solo-homer in Kluber’s start on Wednesday, July 31, as the win signaled the Indians 3rd walk-off win in 6 days...on July 26 (Kluber’s previous start), Ryan Raburn sent the Indians home victorious with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 11th...the Indians 9 walk-off wins thus far on the season rank 3rd in the American League.

2013 SPLITS: Has held left-handed batters to a .276 average against (79-286) while righties have gone 64-254 (.252)...limiting opposing hitters to a .274 average against (90-329) with the bases empty, but has allowed a .251 average against (53-211) with runners on base.

2013 FOR COLUMBUS: Began the season at Triple-A Columbus and has split a pair of decisions for the Clippers, both coming against the Indianapolis Indians...earned a 7-4 win on April 5 at Indianapolis (6.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R-ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 4 SO, 80 pitches/57 strikes), while taking a 12-7 loss on April 14 vs. Indianapolis (6.1 IP, 8 H, 6 R-ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 8 SO, 96 pitches/64 strikes).

CAREER HIGH PUNCHOUTS: Kluber set a new single game career high in strikeouts in his start against Boston on May 26th at Fenway Park as he fanned 10 Red Sox batters through his 6.2 innings pitched...marked his second consecutive start of set-ting a career high in strikeouts as his 8 punchouts in his previous start vs. Detroit also marked a career best...Kluber matched his career-high in his start on July 7 fanning 10 Tigers; Kluber became the first Tribe hurler to strike out at least 10 Tigers batters since Roberto Hernandez also fanned 10 Tigers on August 15, 2007 in Cleveland...Kluber has now issued 168 return slips to the dugout over his 35 career appearances.

2013 splits

I AM THE RAIN KING: Weather has significantly impacted Kluber’s Major League assignments thus far in 2013, as he has had a pair of scheduled starts get wiped out by rainouts and a third shortened because of in-game rain delays...was set to start on April 10 vs. New York-AL before that game was postponed; was again penciled in to start April 24 at Chicago-AL until the previous days’ game was washed out, pushing Zach McAllister’s assignment back one day skipping his spot in the rotation; was then limited to a career-low 2.0 inning start on May 31 after enduring a first pitch delay of 1:57, a 13 minute delay after the start of the game and ultimately being forced out of the game after a 2-hour, 39 minute delay after the second inning.

CAREER SNAPSHOT: • Right-hander is in his fourth season with Cleveland after being acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 31, 2010 in a 3-team trade that sent RHP Jake Westbrook (from Cleveland) and LHP Nicholas Greenwood (from San Diego) to the St. Louis Cardinals and moved OF Ryan Ludwick from St. Louis to San Diego. • Made MLB debut w/ 3 relief appearances as a Sept. call-up with Cleveland in 2011; also made 12 start & 5 relief appearances for the Tribe in Aug./Sept. of 2012. • Was selected by San Diego in the fourth round of the 2007 June draft out of Stetson (FL) University, where he played 3 seasons. • The Birmingham, Alabama native attended Coppell (TX) High School, located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. • Entered 2013 with 74 days of ML service time; will be out of options at conclusion of the season.
