MATERIALS

You will need a laptop to complete this course. Most of the work we do is online and involves much research. Your teacher will email you hand-outs etc, and you will need to keep this in an ordered fashion in your computer, in preparation for assessments.

I also recommend you have an external hard drive to back up your work. This is critical as if your hard drive no longer works, all your work is lost. A memory stick is also critical for passing work around, as many files are too big to email. You will also need to set up a blog inorder to keep all your class work. This blog replaces your exercise book. You may use any practical online site for your blog you wish. Some suggestions are:

COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COURSE

A course fee of $5 is used to pay for the increase in printing costs associated with the course, due to the quantity of work completed on computers. If we are able to go on any trips through-out the year, there may be another cost involved with this.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

• A marking schedule accompanies all tasks. This schedule tells you what your marker is looking for in your work. Please get into the habit of reading these schedules as they tell you how the task will be marked and what you have to do to meet the standard

• The assessment statement makes clear what is assessed and how the final mark is arrived at.

• You will be given a copy of the record sheet to maintain. Please add to this as I return marked work and speak to me if there is any discrepancy between our records sheets.

• All internal course work must be handed in on or before the due date. Any unavoidable extensions are to be negotiated with the HOD previous to the assessment due date.

• The procedures for handing in late work and absences on test days are not negotiable. Work submitted late will not be accepted unless a Senior Manager has given approval.

AUTHENTICATION OF WORK

Authenticating your work is an important feature of studying at senior level. This means making clear that the work is your own. I will ask you to do a number of things to show this. These could include:

• Asking you to make a statement of ‘ownership’ when appropriate

• Asking you and your parent/caregiver to sign the school authenticity form

• Having you do a number of tasks in front of my in the classroom

• Keeping your work processes on a couple of occasions.

• Asking you to identify the resources you have used and the source of your information.

• Completing check points when you are on a long term project.

Remember plagiarism (copying) is an offence and all marked work must be your own. Plagiarism is treated seriously and will be dealt with by Senior Management. Make sure any information
