Word of the Week Community— ‘a group of people living or working together’

Welcome to 2020. We have had a fabulous start to the year. Our staff were in last week and yesterday, working together to prepare the curriculum, whilst establishing engaging and stimulating learning environments ready for the students. We welcome back two returning staff members—Ms Staci Biggins (SA and senior team leader) and Mrs Amanda McLaughlin (JD—time sharing with Mrs Jodi Paul-Marchese) Our 2020 staffing is on page 3 for your reference. We also welcomed many new students today and know they will quickly establish connections and their families will become members of the Cranbourne Primary school community. These new enrolments add to our diverse community. We now have representation of ‘31 languages’ at our school. As you are aware, we communicate to families in a variety of ways—the school web page, the weekly newsletter and text messaging. Important and urgent information is always sent to families via text so please ensure we have your current contact details. We wish to pass on our thoughts to any families who have been impacted by the recent fires or flash floods around Australia and particularly here in Victoria. The December/January period has brought devastation to so many. We would also like to extend gratitude to all those families who have, in one way or another contributed towards supporting the fire affected communities. It is times like this when people reach out to support each other—this is what it means to ’be Australian’ We have had several inquiries about the Coronavirus. We would like to

reassure the community that students are at no risk when they attend school. To support any further enquiries, I have included Information from DET and the Health Dept. on page 4.

The Australian Government has advised that there is no cause for alarm with respect to the coronavirus and

that the risk to the Australian public remains relatively low.

The Department of Education and Training has consulted with Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and Department

of Health and Human Services to provide the following advice to schools and local communities:

Health promotion materials are available to distribute and promote to your staff, students and families, see: Wash your hands regularly - poster Cover your cough and sneeze - poster

Be a Soapy Hero!

For families or students who experience flu-like symptoms AND have recently travelled to Wuhan City, Hubei

province, or had close contact with a confirmed case:

symptoms (including but not limited to cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, body aches or fatigue) AND have recently travelled to Wuhan City or had close contact with a confirmed case in the 14 days before of the onset of illness. Call ahead to notify the medical practitioner of recent travel; and

Education and Training by making an IRIS incident alert. The Department of Education and Training

will ensure appropriate support is provided.
