After 60 years, Liz Aggiss finally gives herselfpermission to do what she damn well pleases.Better late than never! She’s reached an agewhere doing the right thing is optional.Should she please you, or should she pleaseherself?

THE ENGLISH CHANNEL is the story of a careerforged in the heady waters of dance, performanceart and film. It vividly depicts Liz Aggiss resuscitatingherself back into the on-stage limelight. In theprocess, she becomes an unwitting channel forwilful women and forgotten archives; a conduit forhidden histories and buried truths. She is yourcunning connection to ‘the other side’; a wittycommentator on life and death; on the pain, pleasure and paradox of the stage.

Using her body as the medium through which to actout and act up, the choreography and texts (writtenby Aggiss) are framed by contemporary and archivefilm (Joe Murray). The specially composed musicscore (by Alan Boorman/Wevie) includes someknock-out musical numbers. Surprise guests arechannelled into being.

Contains some flashing lights/images and stronglanguage, recommended for 15+

One is the choreographer, the other thedancer. Standing together on stage, ArnoSchuitemaker and Mitchell-lee van Rooijenter into an evolving dialogue. Theyingeniously fuse movements, ideas, images, voices and sounds.

With its novel perspective, pulsating rhythm andinventive lighting design, I is an Other is both down-to-earth and hallucinatory. Inspired by the poeticsof recent scientific discoveries, Schuitemakercreated I is an Other by exploring the waymetaphors engender connections in our brain andexposing the manifold strength of the movingbody. Bringing together choreographer andperformer, and uniting form and content, heportrays what a metaphor does: forging one thingto exist in the context of something else.

Arno Schuitemaker's work fuses movements, images, voice and sound with a novel perspective, pulsating rhythm and inventive lighting to exposethe manifold strength of the moving body. Rivetingand physically arresting.
