Ray worked at the foundry but was a very talentedbuilder. Helen and Ray raised their four children Su-san, Diana, Sandra and Michael in Zillwaukee in thehome he built with the help of family. Helen was al-ways busy raising the four children while helping outat their school and their home parish St. John’s Luther-an Church.

Helen has fond memories of taking the familyon camping trips and singing around the campfire.Helen and Ray began camping with their children ina tent, then purchasing a pop up camper, to eventuallya motor home!

Ray’s hobby was making items out of wood. He-len was also very crafty. Helen enjoyed helping Rayadd the finishing touches to his many projects. Shewas responsible for the sanding, staining and var-nishing. After the children were grown, she also de-veloped a love for knitting, crocheting and quilting.

Every grandchild or great grandchild would re-ceive a special handmade sweater or quilt made withlove.

Together Helen and Ray cherish each momentwith their family, especially the joy of their seven

grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Helen and Raywere married sixty eight yearsbefore the love of her lifepassed in 2019. Helen foundcomfort in her faithful dog Bel-la Jean. Bella never leaves He-len’s side and will be her bestfriend for life.

Helen B. was born March 26, 1933 in SaginawMI. Her parents, Mary and Alex raised three childrenwith the help of Helen’s grandmother Catherine wholived with them. Her grandmother only spoke Ger-man so; Helen and her siblings Dorothy and Den-nis grew up fluent in the language.

Helen’s mother worked in bakeries to help pro-vide for the household. Helen learned to cook andbake from these amazing women who were role mod-els in her life. Helen’s parents were resilient duringdifficult times, no matter how labored life was. Thelove of their faith and music made them bond strongeras a family.

Growing up Helen attended South school in Sag-inaw. The circus was coming to Helen’s school, andeveryone from all around the community came to seethe performers. In the 1940’s and 1950’s the “FlyingMelzoras “were a famous trapeze family from the area.Helen was in awe of the acts. At the circus a hand-some teen named Albert (Ray) noticed Helen and waslove stuck by the beauty he met that day.

Helen and Ray would meet again ice skating atHoyt Park in Saginaw. The two hit it off and beganto see more of each otherwhenever they could. Raylived in Zilwaukee and did nothave a car to call on his sweet-heart. Ray would borrow hisfriend’s Cushman scooter tovisit. Being five years olderthan Helen Ray enlisted in thearmy to serve his country. He-len was still in high school andvowed to wait for Ray to re-turn. When Helen graduatedfrom Arthur High School thehappy couple married shortlyafter that year.
