Welcome to our first newsletter for 2010.

We are now well into

the 2010 season and it’s great to see so many regulars back

with us this year. A special welcome to our

new members, Shocko, Pops Mullville, Phillip Brennan, Paddy Wright

and Paddy Dunne.

We’d like to take the opportunity of using this newsletter to bring

Welcome to 2010

Mikie Rooney Cup

This year’s competition will once

again take place in that fantastic venue of Glen Mill Par 3. The

tee has been booked for 1:00 on Sunday

6th June. It will be the usual

stableford competition and the 4 club rule

will apply. After careful

consideration the committee has

you up to date on what’s being going on

in the club so far and also to inform you of

forthcoming events in the pipeline.

It’s been a great start to the season with

Sunday morning attendances well up on last year. The

return of (unplayable) Con to the fold is a

welcome boast to the committee. Con has re-introduced the

deuces competition on Sunday mornings

and there is great interest in the built up

kitty on this one. The Committee too

has been busy and you will see from the

list of events in this newsletter the unthankful tasks they

are undertaking on your behalf.

Please support them where you can.

decided that this will be the last run of the

Mickie Rooney Cup as we know it. A new cup to honor all our

past members, Mikie Rooney, Johnny Kelly

and Dave Mooney will be introduced in its place from next year

onwards.

So, this year’s competition has that extra edge to it, as

the winner gets to keep the cup. You fi ll

it one more time and then you keep it

forever. Further details will

follow in due course.

Let me take this opportunity to thank on your behalf the

Rooney family for all their support for this

competition over the many years of its existence.

“you can only declare

for one club otherwise

you will be precluded

from entering the

competition.”

Following on from the discussion at the

AGM regarding this event, the committee have listened to the

view of the members and decided to make

this an overnighter. There is no better

venue to launch this inaugural Presidents

overnighter, then the very first and memorable

overnighter of the club to Moate.

The Presidents Day

The gauntlet has been thrown, the

challenge accepted and now the

competition declared. A new competition

has been agreed between ourselves

and the RPT Kiely’s Golf Society. A sub group consisting of

committee members from both clubs have

already met and agreed a provisional format for this

competition.

The competition will be held in Glen Mill Par 3, on Sunday 4th

July with a tee time of 2:30. It wi ll be a

match play competition and the pitch and putt 4 club

The Cyder Cup

A provisional

booking has been

organized for Ballymore Par 3 and 10 presidential suites

have been booked in the Grand Hotel in

Moate for Saturday 19th June. A bus to bring us there and

back to Donnybrook on the 20th June has

also been arranged. Further details

regarding costs, tee-times etc are

currently being

finalized at committee level and will be

posted over the next few weeks.

In anticipation of a mad rush and the

event being oversubscribed you are well advised to

put your name forward as early as

possible as it will be first come with deposits that will

secure booking.

Visitors welcome.

rule will apply. Both clubs will submit a list

of 16 names with the top 12 from each

being selected to compete and represent their

respective clubs.

A draw will be made on 20th June to decide pairings

(another excuse for a piss up). Both teams

must have their respective teams declared before this

date.

Therefore to enter this competition and represent Kiely’s

Pitch & Putt club you must submit your

declaration to the Secretary no later than 13th June. In the

event of being oversubscribed,

priority will be given towards our regular

Sunday morning attendee’s.

Please note especially to our

members who are also involved with the other lot, you can

only declare for 1 club.

To those thinking of declaring for the other

side, be warned and remember what

happened Michael Collins.

Again further details will be posted in due

course.

In keeping with the digital age and not to

be left behind the times, our esteemed treasurer and

technical whiz, Seanie Brennan has set up a

facebook group page for the club.

You can find it in the search bar of

facebook and just type in “Kiely’s Pitch & Putt Club”.

We invite all of you

who are embracing the internet at present to use this medium

Club goes digital

As you can see from the contents of this

newsletter there is a lot happening in the

club at present. It would not be possible to keep the costs of

these events to a minimum or faci litate

them without your help in fundraising.

Please find enclosed your ticket allocation

for our 1st annual draw of 2010 to be held on Sunday 6th

June.

and become a member.

It is hoped to post club events, photos,

discussion boards, competition results

and other gossip related matters on this group.

Only members of the

club will be accepted as fans of this group so there is no fear of

our competitors being allowed in.

Also we have launched a new email

account for the club which is known as

[email protected]. Use can now use this

account to submit correspondence, complaints etc to the

committee.

Of course you will receive the usual text msgs regarding up

and coming events, however this medium

is limited in content, so we ask you to support the new

ventures of facebook and email for club

communications.

Once again we ask that you make every

effort in getting tickets sold and returned to

the treasurer as early as possible, or at least a week before

draw date.

Draw takes place in Kiely’s Sunday 6th June with dynamic

duo of “Live & Exclusive” providing

the entertainment for the night. Honestly lads we’re fierce lucky

to have this band with

us for this night. Given the rise of

Jedward and Cyrstal Swing, it won’t be

long when “L&E” are forced to go on tour with these talented

units.

A big thank you to all who have paid up memberships to date.

Finally ….

At the AGM it was agreed that monies left over from the Super Deuces competition would not be carried forward to 2010 and

be donated to charity. At the suggestion of the organiser (Con Dooley), a cheque for €150 was sent to Crumlin Children’s

hospital on the clubs behalf. Crumlin Hospital have acknowledged this donation and have

written to us to ask that we convey their gratitude to the club. So well done.
