Die he- likopter sal hopelik misdadigers afskrik. HULLE byt my hier, hulle byt my daar, hullebyt my sommer deurmekaar . . .

THE Kouga Municipality has appealed tomedical doctors to stop issuing sick certifi-cates without just cause.

Kouga Municipal Manager Sidney Fadisaid the abuse of sick leave was rife with boththe municipality and private sector in the re-gion.“The majority of doctors in Kouga are ethi-

cal and professional practitioners who refuseto bend the rules andwill not issue sick certif-icates if there isn’t a genuine medical reasonwhy an employee cannot report for duty. Asa municipality, we appreciate the fine workthey do.“There are, however, a few doctors who is-

sue sick certificates without just cause.“The modus operandi is that employees

make use of various doctors’ services andeach time they have a different complaint forwhich they are booked off. If a patient is care-fully examined, the doctor should detectwhether the person is genuinely sick or not.“This fraudulent practice must be stopped.

It damages both local government and private

institutions’ ability to deliver services and isharmful to the economy as a whole,” he cau-tioned.Fadi said the municipality had already iden-

tified doctors suspected of issuing sick certifi-cates without just cause and written to them towarn them that the municipality will be ques-tioning their diagnoses where it is suspectedthat employees are abusing their sick leave.“If an employee hands in a sick certificate

from one of these doctors, the employee willbe referred to another doctor for a secondopinion. If the second opinion indicates thatthere is no medical reason for the employeeto be booked off sick, wewill report the doctorwho issued the sick certificate to the HealthProfessions Council for investigation,” hesaid. He said employees would be marked “ab-

sent” for that period and forfeit their salary.“It must be stressed that no employee will

ever be advised not to make use of a doctorof their choice, but those doctors who are sus-pected of issuing fraudulent sick notes willnot have their sick notes accepted.”

THE ANC and theDA shared thespoils in the heatedby-elections thattook place in theKouga on Wednes-day 27 - with eachparty winning oneof the highlycontested wards.

The DA hoped toclinch both wards, which would enablethem to overthrowthe ANC and takecontrol of theKouga Municipali-ty. However, theANC retains theCouncil by a slimone seat.ANC candidate

Xolisile Persentdefeated his DArival, Otto Wil-liams, by 432 votesand became thelatest councillor ofWard 9 in Hankey. In Ward 9 where

5 302 voters wereeligible to vote,3 664 votes werecast (69.11%). Ofthese 38 werespoilt.The DA’s Des-

mond Pietersensecured 1 001 andscooped up Ward 5in Humansdorpfrom executivemayor Booi Koeratwho managed toobtain 732 votes. The total number

of eligible voters inWard 5 was 3 111. Atotal of 1 744 votes(56.06%) were cast.Out of these 11were spoilt ballots.According to

municipal electoralofficer Sidney Fadi,voter turn-out inWard 5 decreasedby 2.6% from58.66% in 2011,while the voterturn-out in Ward 9remained fairlystable.“However, we are

concerned aboutthe number ofpeople who werenot registered, buttried to vote on theday, as well as themany young people- though visiblyactive in campaign-ing - who were notregistered.”Despite losing

Ward 9, the DA ispositive that theyare on track to dowell in the 2014elections.

Notice isherebygiven thatbetween fourandsixaerial applicationsof Fruit FlyBait,GF-120(RegNo.L7331,Act 36of 1947),

will take place between November 2013 and March 2014 in the Elgin/Grabouw/Villiersdorp/Vyeboom, Hex River Valley, Ceres,Langkloof, Orange River and Franschhoek/Simondium production areas. These applications are part of the Deciduous FruitIndustry's area wide action regarding the control of fruit flies in the above mentioned areas.BACKGROUND INFORMATIONFruit flies are a phytosanitary pest and cost producers millions of rands every year. All available methods for control measuresare presently being used to fight this pest. Production areas close to residential areas are being hit the hardest by fruit fliesbecause of insufficient control measures in these areas. The control measures that are being used at present may include the following:

1. Monitoring of fruit fly numbers with traps containing either a pheromone or a controlled release vapour attractantsystem.

2. Sanitation in orchards and vineyards where fruit flies can hatch, hide or find shelter and food to live on.3. Regularly applying fruit fly bait in orchards and vineyards.4. Releasing sterile males on a weekly basis.

GF-120 Fruit Fly Bait is registered for both ground and aerial applications in SouthAfrica and other countries. All the ingredientsare natural and GF-120 is used internationally as a very low risk product, which is certified organic by OMRI.The main ingredients in GF-120 include the following:Plant protein and sugar formulation, with spinosad as the active ingredient. Spinosad is obtained from a fermenting process ofSaccharopolyspora spinosa which is a natural ground organism. When this product is used according to the recommendation, only 0.24g of the active ingredient will be spread over a hectare inscattered drops. If applied as prescribed, there will be minimal risk for animals, human health, birds and any other organisms inthe environment, as it will only attract and kill fruit flies.MORE FEATURES:Colour – light brown to brownModerately stickyNot corrosive or irritatingSoluble in water and washes off easilyNot prone to staining.Despite above mentioned features of GF120, residents are requested to adhere to the following:

My hart klink doef-doef-doef in my ore op,

elke spier span styf . . . en ek spring vir diegly . . .

are soos ’n span wilde perde.

volgende jaar beplan.
