In the spring of 2008, I needed to put together a collection of
photographs to use in some upcoming projects. Instead
of hiring a photographer to shoot a typical headshot or any
predictable and obvious pictures, I wanted to explore the
idea of collecting some shots in nature that just happened to
include me. My friend and colleague, Kevin Stout, who
is also a wonderful photographer, recommended the Valley of Fire,
in the desert just north of Las Vegas, as a
possible setting.
He also suggested that we might consider getting there before dawn
so we could take advantage of the “first light”
of day. In the desert, once the sun has risen, many details and
colors seen at daybreak disappear or become
washed out because the sunlight is so intense.
On the day of our trek into this wilderness for this photo shoot, I
picked up Kevin at his home around 3:30 a.m. We
parked out on a gravel road then hiked across a plain toward a
grouping of large boulders where Kevin knew we
would be in the direct path of dawn, where the light would reveal
itself first. The experience of this first light of day
was something I shall never forget, and is the inspiration for this
collection of music.

I knew at the moment I stood in the face of this morning that I
would play this. Of course, I didn’t know the specific
music until the moment it was being played through me anymore than
I knew the experience of day break, of dawn, or
the very spiritual power of ‘first light’ until I found myself
directly aligned in its moment by moment manifestation.
Although I am not able to repeat my performance of these songs,
each time I hear this music, I do recognize the
results of having put my hands onto the keyboard and surrendering
to what would be played in the hour or so
required to complete this CD.
That it took me approximately forty-five minutes to play is in
direct proportion to the time it took for that first light to
begin to reveal itself, emerging through sunrise, finally bursting
into full daybreak. The brighter the light became, the
more what we saw in that world around us seemed to change. All
those details were still there, but how we saw them
continued to shift, as the light grew brighter. Yet the reality is
that the world hadn’t changed; the way we saw it did.

This album is only available in specific shops in Greece. It is a
beautiful album of Nikos'
masterpieces with lyrics especially adapted for the children who
sing on CD1. It gives a
better understanding of the real meaning of the original lyrics,
according to Nikos. For
many pieces now there are lyrics that used to have no lyrics. On
CD2 the choir does not
sing. The album contains also a bookllet with the biography of
Nikos and the lyrics. For

IWO (’v) is a Polish born, Chicago based piano
composer/performer/teacher. She attended the prestigious
Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie (Academy of Music, Cracow) in Poland
where she studied Piano Performance and
Music Theory & Composition. After competing in numerous piano
competitions she began a career as a concert
pianist. Having immigrated to the USA, her musical interests
further expanded and she began composing in a more
contemporary style sometimes referred to as \“New Age\” or \“Cinema
Music\”. While not completely
comfortable with either term, she does appreciate the accessibility
of the aforementioned music genres, but still keeps
one foot solidly grounded in the structure and complex harmonies of
the Classical music world. IWO believes that the
timeless qualities associated with the Classical greats stem from
not only their beautiful melodies, but also their
underlying structure and feels that listeners appreciate a well
crafted \“song\” that they can listen to now, and
over time.

The Dancing Pianist Arturo Mayorga
Arturo Mayorga does not literally dance while playing piano, but if
he were to attempt this feat, I am certain it would be
as graceful and dignified of what was apparent in his first album
Cascades, in the New Age Classic piano category.

dancing, where Waltz, Tango, and Swing are scrutinized before
watchful judges who watch for the accepted criteria of
a dancing couple locked hand in hand.
Now with a concert piano as his partner, Cascades embraces the
identical movements found in classical dance by
having a choreography timed with proper speed, motion, and
balance.
While judging this debut album for myself, I became aware that the
10 songs of varying moods left me feeling they
were a personal revelation of his emotional thoughts put to
music.
Like so many musicians, a parent’s considerate gift of a musical
instrument at an early age is what began his interest
in music. Arturo states that it was at this early age that he
realized the impact of what one person playing an
instrument could have on another. Continuing music through high
school then college, his studies were in math and
science, but composing music was also on his mind, starting the
framework songs for the Cascades album during this
time period.
Starting in the first song position is Sunrise. This mid tempo
piano and violin duet sets the standard for a graceful
heartfelt ballet, where each timed movement is balanced by the
piano melody considering violin takes a second seat
by following the lead. There is much emotional content felt, since
a melancholy feel is present, lending to a touch of
sadness, yet adding character and definition, leaving a beautiful
image of what you have just heard in your mind.
While judging this debut album for myself, I became aware that the
10 songs of varying moods left me
feeling they were a personal revelation of his emotional thoughts
put to music.
The Last Night of Winter aligns well with the piano’s duo partner
in allowing violin to take the lead in portion of the
melody during this faster paced song, where full 360 degree
rotational dance pivots, and those brief stationary pauses
always see during pivot turns, can be pictured in your mind if you
try.

The title song Cascades is a true champion in freestyle, where a
faster tempo piano promenades with every rise and
fall in piano key note steps, reaching the full height in posture,
rhythm, and speed. Violin then connects with the
melody posturing in a more formal manner while piano strokes sweep
along the keyboard at a dizzying pace. The
positive upbeat piano movements seem to sweep you off your feet at
critical moments, leaving you breathless at the
finish.
Arturo is very successful by engraving a full range of emotional
content and movement into his classic orchestra style
music. Knowing his background in dance, one can easily imagine
themselves sitting in the audience watching Arturo
in motion while listening to his music and from where I am sitting,
he appears to be a winner.

Cascades

“Cascades” is the debut recording from pianist/composer Arturo
Mayorga. Most of the ten tracks are piano with
keyboard orchestration and embellishments, and several indicate a
strong influence from Yanni. There is a variety of
moods in the pieces - some are soft and romantic while others are
darker and more powerful - indicating that
Mayorga has a good range of styles. “Cascades” is a very strong
debut even though it is a little heavy on the synth
strings.
“Sunrise” begins the album with a hushed sense of mystery. As the
piece evolves, it becomes more colorful and
melodic while maintaining a mood of calm optimism. The title track
picks up the tempo a bit. The left hand plays a
flowing accompaniment to the lovely melody while gentle percussion
and string washes in the background add
dimension. “Painting On Silence” has a very strong influence from
Yanni’s “In My Time” era - graceful, smooth,
and melodic. “Lone Walk” is a favorite. Darker and more melancholy,
this one reminds me of Dax Johnson in places.
Piano, strings, and percussion are evocative and moody. “In-Side
Change” is also on the dark, pensive side, and
voices join the instrumental mix. It’s a beautiful piece, but I’m
not crazy about the solo violin (keyboard). “Nocturne
No. 2” takes a more classical turn and is solo piano. I really like
“Secret Life,” which also has hints of Yanni.
Upbeat and rhythmic, it is one of the more joyous pieces on the
album. “Water Dance” is another favorite. A bit
more ambient for the first two minutes, the haunting flute casts a
quiet spell. Then the piano comes in, swirling and
dancing. Eventually, the flute returns along with strings, creating
a joyous celebration.

Artist, visionary, innovator, and musician are just a few words
that help describe Jon
Rattenbury. An Artist of international stature, Rattenbury is
probably best known for his
attention to detail, his use of vibrant colors and light, and his
portrayal of nature's awe-
inspiring beauty. Through his work, we are able to experience a
dreamlike vision of the
natural world around us.
Born in Cheltenham, England in 1966, Rattenbury's family immigrated
to America when he
was just 3 years old settling in Northern California. Though
completely self-taught as an
artist, Jon draws on his family and childhood experiences for his
artistic ability. Both his
mother has and grandmother had strong musical talents. Most of
Jon's childhood was spent
with his twin brother, Tim, exploring the magnificent rolling
hills, lush valleys and endless
beauty of California. It was the splendor of the natural world
around him that inspired him to
start drawing at an early age. He explored many types of drawing
techniques in pencil and
ink. At the age of 13, he began experimenting with the use of color
and light. Though he
began painting with oils, Rattenbury soon discovered acrylics where

Bio
Omnimi is a music project aiming to create a blend of classical,
choral and world music. With propulsive rhythmic
eastern percussions, a rousing orchestra and a choir singing
primitive earthy tunes, Omnimi explores a musical
language that fuses ethnic with classical. The mood of the
compositions spans across dramatic, epic, cinematic style
to purely relaxing.
The basic instrumentation of Omnimi is a classical orchestra, a
SATB Choir extended percussions, drums, electric
guitar and bass and a female vocalist.
In 2010 Omnimi released the debut album "Eight Moons". An album
about the eight moons of eight planets.
"Omnimi" means "take an oath" in ancient greek.
