HOMESTAY Each student is placed with a local Montréal host family. English or bilingual speaking families are possible.

Students in homestay are guaranteed: • A friendly, welcoming family who treat the student as a member of their family • A private room with a bed, dresser, closet and work space

Students in homestay are expected to: • Treat their host family with respect and act as part of the family • Obey the family rules, especially with respect to curfew • Keep their room and living space tidy and voluntarily help with reasonable household chores • Respect the host family’s privacy • Respect any cultural differences

RESIDENCE NEW! Kells Academy has opened a small residence for international students. Housing just 40 students, rooms are shared by a maximum of two students; boys and girls are accommodated separately. Each room is equipped with single beds, desks, lamps, dressers and closet space. residence is fully supervised, and students receive 3 meals daily.

ACADEMIC CURRICULUM High School A versatile and challenging academic curriculum allows students to build on the course of study encompassing 6-7 courses per year that best suit their individual interests and future plans. Students are integrated into a programme of Intermediate and Advanced Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science. Courses are geared toward graduation with a Québec High School Diploma.

The Ministry of Education in the Québec School System is designed to finish at the end of Grade 11 (Form V). Grade 12 study programme may be possible. This is a teacher supported online programme, following the Ontario curriculum.

COMPUTERS / LAPTOPS laptop: supplied Kells Academy is leading the surrounding region in the integration of technology into the classroom. The school requires all students in grades 7-10 to be on the iPad© program, and many classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards©. With a significant investment in education technology and infrastructure, students are exposed and trained to utilize technology as a tool and resource in order to enhance their learning.

ESL/FSL At Kells Academy, students begin with an individual assessment which is used for appropriate grade level and course placement. Teachers help students adapt to the new languages and culture as they prepare for academic success. Individual tutorials are offered after-school, as are courses in the fundamentals of conversational English or French. The ESL/FSL programme is designed with the needs of each individual student’s levels and capabilities.

SPORTS AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES participation: encouraged Participation in sports and extra-curricular activities is an encouraged component of the academic life. Each term students have the option to choose a physical or social activity and may choose either competitive sports or an intramural programme.
