Denise King - Principal
Welcome back to our students, parents and staff to what will be a fast-paced Term 4 heading
towards Christmas! Please keep an eye on our school app, check the electronic notice board and
please read our school newsletter for details on all up and coming events.
Attendance
It’s not OK to be away, it’s not great to be late! All parents have a responsibility to ensure that
children attend school each day and to notify the school as soon as possible if their child is away. Schools have a
legal requirement to record student attendance. If your child is absent, parents are required to provide the school
with an explanation within 7 days, be it verbal and/or written about why they were away. If your child is absent due
to illness the school can request a medical certificate from the doctor.
Connecting to Community 2018
Staff at Narromine High School and Narromine Public School have been working with the Narromine Lands Council
and the Narromine AECG to strengthen and enhance our connections to the Narromine community by participating
in a local professional learning program entitled Connecting to Community. This learning has engaged our teams as
we participated in a smoking ceremony, shared stories of local significance and enjoyed a kinship connection activity
that pointed to the roles and responsibilities of our students within their families. The combined staffs enjoyed a
very delicious shared evening meal of kangaroo.
This Wednesday is the second component of this fantastic professional learning opportunity where we will be
visiting the keeping place, talking with community elders, visiting the river and scar trees. All staff are very much
looking forward to adding to our shared knowledge and enhancing the Aboriginal perspectives within the teaching
and learning curriculum for the children of the Narromine Community. We would like to acknowledge and thank
volunteers who have been working alongside the Lands Council and the AECG in presenting Connecting to
Community 2018.
Spelling BEE
Congratulations to Jessica Woods from 3/4 EG who attended the Junior State
Final of the 2018 Premiers Spelling Bee on Friday 2 November at Eugene
Goossens Hall, ABC Centre in Sydney.
The NSW Premier's Spelling Bee is a fun way to encourage literacy amongst
public primary school children. The Premier's Spelling Bee began in 2004 and
invites all NSW government primary, central and community schools to
participate. Each school is encouraged to nominate two representatives selected
from local school spelling knockouts. Jessica along with Bryce Dixon, Andrew
Smith and Sophie Woods attended our regional Spelling Bee in Dubbo. As the
regional winner in the junior section, Jess and her family were invited to the
state championships in Sydney where 100 students competed. Jess was
successful in making it to the fourth round. This year the bee tested a record
170,000 students. These talented spellers confront tricky words such as 'disseminate', 'exuberant', 'semantics',
'viscount', 'desiccated', 'exaggerate', 'sagacious', 'laureate', 'ameliorate' and 'epitome' in a knock-out format
competition. Jess’s final word was insidious. When asked about her experience Jess said, “I had a lot of fun. I loved
the challenge of the spelling and it was amazing being interviewed by ABC ME for BTN.” Jess will be on BTN on
Monday so tune in to see her interview. Well done Jess!

NPS students are visiting Stewart House
On Friday I had the pleasure of visiting Charles, Blake, William and
Lakoda at Stewart House. When I arrived the children were just
coming back from the beach where they had been swimming in a
tidal pool, the children looked so happy and were busting to share all
the fun things that they had been doing during the week. Stewart
House is a fantastic program that NPS staff and school support by
our participation, fundraising and wage donations.
Every year 1,700 public school children attend the school that is
across the road from Curl Curl Beach. During a 12-day stay the
children attend school, they are provided with dental, optical,
hearing and medical screening and treatment as well as a huge array of social
outings. The students participate in educational programs and excursions designed
to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their
overall wellbeing.
Our children who attend Stewart House are inspired to see beyond the
present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.
Stewart House is a wonderful opportunity and we are looking forward
to sharing photos and recounts by the children with our community
when they return to NPS.

Anti-bullying Workshop
On 31 October Year 6 and the teachers went to
the Dubbo Zoo for an anti-bullying workshop.
During our time at the zoo we learnt about the
different types of bullying, what bullying is and
means, ways to prevent bullying, ways to report
bullying, how to report bullying and how bullying
affects people of different ages.
Our first presentation was by Lesley Harrison and
she told us about our online brand. During this session we learnt that what you post on your social media page is
what people will see you by. Lesley also made us think about what message we are sending online and what sort of
message your page is sending everyone else.
Our second presentation was by Neil Humphrey and he talked to us about bullying and anger. During this
presentation we learnt that bullies have a reason for bullying others. We also learnt some strategies to calm down
and relax.
Our final lesson was taught by Juli Coffin. Her lesson was very interactive with everyone in the audience. She got us
to do a pop quiz and talk to the people around us about the scenarios and videos we were viewing. In this session Juli
spoke about turning peer pressure into bullying, the dangers of social media and bullying from different people.
Overall it was an enjoyable, exciting day and everyone had a blast. - Amanda Wicks 5/6W

Respect, Honesty, Responsibility – RHR – That’s Who We Are
PBL Update The PBL focus for this week is how we show responsibility by dealing with our emotions when we are feeling upset or angry. It is important to deal with our emotions in a positive way. We all benefit as we feel calmer and nobody gets hurt physically or emotionally. Students and staff will all feel safe and
respected. Students who have been following our core values of RHR and have earned themselves 100 points will be eligible to participate in stage rewards. They need to have 100 points by Monday Week 5. Thank you for support in encouraging your child to follow our core values. RHR That’s Who We Are! - PBL Team

Sport
This term Year 3-6 are doing swimming for sport on Fridays from 11:30am-1pm in weeks 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7. Students
will be taken through a series of activities such as water confidence, water safety skills, stroke practice and diving. All
students are grouped according to the signed permission note from Term 1 and teacher judgement based on their
swimming ability. If you feel that your child is in the wrong group please send in a signed note stating which group
you feel they should be in, to their classroom teacher. Students are reminded to bring their swimming costume,
towel, hat and sunscreen.
If students are not swimming one week, a signed note explaining why they are not swimming needs to be sent in to
their classroom teacher.

Metaphor Poetry – Stage 3 Extension Literacy Group
SISTER – By Lauren Turnbull
Playful cat, Chasing Mice
Running round the house
Sometimes her claws come out but only for a mouse.
Cuddle up with the family,
Purring on our laps
Beautiful sweet ginger cat,
I love to watch you nap.
MUM – By Charlotte Masonwells
Beautiful rose in the family garden,
Your petals lay a path for us to grow.
When frustration strikes the thorns come out but not for long,
You’re the sweetest family in the garden,
I love you.
DAD – By Khaylea Speers
Protective lion, roaring loud
Cubs are kept safe.
Strong teeth to bring back food
Five little cubs by his side all the time
DAD – By Isabella Press
Dog playing around but protects
Stands strong but loyal to the family
Terrifying but wagging tail
Scary but kind
Loud but silent
SISTER – By Andrew Smith
Beautiful Rose,
Standing strong in our family garden
Your beauty never ceases to amaze me
You never give up,
But when frustration attacks the thorns come out to play
Growing taller every day
You are my ever inspiration
MUM – By Joshua Richards
Grow well soft rose.
The soft petals fill the hole in the path
Amazing petals wraps my heart and removes the angry part,
When danger lurks the spikey thorns are out,
Happiness comes when the danger is gone.
Love comes out and fills the family’s heart
You are my lovely rose.
DAD – By Chloe Tomkins
You strong protective lion
You always build a cage to protect your cubs.
You continuously roar loudly when your
predators surround.
You are loving and loyal to your pride,
I love you kind hearted personality.
Your coat stands out full of pride and golden,
You make a pride a charmed pride.
DAD – By Jock Chapman
Stand strong mighty beaver and build
homes for us.
When something seems impossible you
make it possible.
You never stop working,
Always looking after your family
Stopping danger from lurking around
DAD – By Murray Devlin
Stand strong elephant in the bush
For as far as the land can see
When help is needed you are on the scene
When danger seeks, protective mode kicks in
Kindness is what you are, you are my
strong animal by far.
DAD – By Adelaide Maher
The loyal lion sits in the den with his cubs
Playing with them, having lots of fun
He can hear lightning and thunder too
He gets up and starts to move
Walks over to the door and blocks the rain
My sister and I are so afraid, the rain stops and my
sister starts to cry,
He comes back to us and hugs her and I
We start to feel better.
He pounced around , so happy the rain stopped.
We run, we play, we hop.
Strong lion born free
I am so happy he’s family.
