Kalori Denise King Principal Welcome to the 2017 school year at Narromine Public School A special welcome to our new families: the Mitchell family, the Roberts Family, the Dickson family, the Cubby family, the Honeysett family and the Redman family. We are sure you will quickly be swept up in the action packed learning and extra curricula activities that make Narromine Public School so engaging and energising. The 2017 Kindergarten class have commenced their first day of their big school journey. Mrs Krueger and Miss O’Dea have had a successful start with our newest members of the Narromine Public School family. Today we have seen little people confident, happy and familiar with our setting, this is the difference programs such as Kindy-O can make for our little ones. A very big thank you to our Kindy parents for their enthusiasm and participation in our Pre-Kindergarten programs. We have had a wonderful start and we are all looking forward to getting to know our Kindy students as they progress through the year. The following are a few helpful tips for parents with little ones in Kindergarten: When children start school they bring all the things they learnt at home with them. Keep up the things you did with your child before they started school, like bedtime reading. Talk to your child's teacher if you have concerns about your child's learning. Get your child to school on time; it helps avoid anxiety. Get involved in your school; it shows your children you value education. There are many ways to help your child thrive when they start 'big' school. A great way to kick off your child's formal education is to understand the school culture and what your child is doing in the classroom. It can give you peace of mind and your child sound directions in their learning for life. Parent class information sessions The staff are looking forward to catching up with our families at our parent information sessions and sports house games afternoon on Tuesday the 7 February. This information was sent home earlier in the week as a flyer and pushed out on the school app. Our parent information sessions assist parents in gaining an understanding as to class and stage expectations, activities, excursions and general workings. This time is also an opportunity to meet your teachers, your child’s peers and parents and show your enthusiasm for your child’s learning. Swimming Carnival We have another big term of sport commencing with our swimming carnival; notes have been sent home for those children 8yrs and over. Please remember that for children to swim in timed races they must be signed off by parents/carers as strong swimmers - this equates to swimming 50 metres confidently. This carnival is a great day of team spirit and school fun. If you are unsure as to your sports house colour, please contact the office. Students self nominate for events in their classes. New staff members Welcome to the team Miss McPherson, Miss Aberley, Miss O’Dea, Mrs Wilson, Mrs St Clair and Mrs Baker. Respect, Honesty, Responsibility – RHR – That’s Who We Are

Sport Welcome back to another busy year of sport in 2017. The following contains some very important information regarding sport for this term. Notes- To make the running of all sporting events easier it is essential that the students return their walking notes, swimming notes and internet use and permission to publish notes to their classroom teachers as soon as possible. School Sport - All Year 3-6 students are expected to wear sports uniform every Friday. For term 1 on Fridays Years 3-6 students will be going to the pool for sport. The cost of the pool entry will be covered by the school so there is no need to send money for entry. NPS values the impact participating in sport has on student learning and as a result has budgeted to support this activity. Students are expected to participate every week as sport is a compulsory component of the curriculum. Students need to bring their swimmers, towel, sunscreen and hat. If for some reason one week they are unable to participate please send a note to the classroom teacher explaining why they cannot participate. 2017 House Leaders Namoi Captains – Daniel O’Rourke and Amy Smith. Namoi Vice Captains – Tyler and Molly Wilson. Bogan Captains – Sam Brien and Belinda Campbell. Bogan Vice Captains – David and Chloe Corderoy. Macquarie Captains – Sam King and Ashleigh Woods. Macquarie Vice Captains – Logan Parry and Ebony Preston. Castlereagh Captains – Sebastian Galea and Alexi Everett. Castlereagh Vice Captains – Thomas Fidock and Amelia Housden. NPS 2017 Swimming Carnival- The school swimming carnival will be held on THURSDAY 9 February. All students are to come to school first and then walk to the pool in their house groups. All students in Years 3-6 will attend the swimming carnival and all students in Year 2 that are 8 years old at some point this year that are participating in the carnival will attend. If they are turning 8 this year and are not strong swimmers therefore not eligible to race they will stay at school and attend class as normal. It is important that parents are aware that for students to enter racing events at the carnival that they must have strong swimmer ticked on their swimming note and they must be in that group for sport as well.
