Kalori Term 2 - Week 6 3 June 2020 Respect, Honesty, Responsibility – RHR – That’s Who We Are Meryula St Narromine NSW 2821 P: 02 68894566 F: 02 68894451 E: [email protected] Denise Toohey – Principal Tribute to Jody Beahan When we say good bye to friends and family we revisit our own pain and hurt, we visit mortality, the joys and the sorrow. We mourn for their laughter and humour, we mourn for their companionship, we reflect on the times we have spent together, we grieve for their families and the milestones they themselves will miss. This is what we are all experiencing today as an NPS family, we are sad for the lost time with Jody, we are feeling like a piece of our puzzle is missing, a family member, a team member and a dear friend is absent – Jody has been a part of Narromine Public School since 2004, she has been that hard working, diligent, highly professional background person who shied away from the limelight. Jody has supported so many of us through her kind words, her gestures of goodwill, her collegial outlook and her ability to make us all smile with her quick wit and contagious laugh. Jody, Makailah and Wendy were the three stooges of the Jarrah COLA, laughing, learning and stirring mischief with their word plays – most of it MA, some of it G. The children in the classrooms called her Mrs B, but Makailah called her Rice Bubbles with love and affection. A cheeky giggle or a stern stare Jody was there for the children with a particular attachment to our little ones who struggled to make learning connections. She took great pride in helping them, growing them and building them up with confidence in themselves, their learning and their abilities. The children are a little poorer for her passing, but a great deal richer for the time she spent with them, the personalities she helped shape, the hands she held making them feel safe, the smiles she gave that brightened up their days and the love, dedication and positive energy she brought to Narromine Public School. We will miss Jody greatly but we must also celebrate her contributions and remember her as a beautiful team mate. May she rest in peace. Reconciliation 2021 Today, we celebrated Reconciliation day. In recognition of this day, students were encouraged to come out of uniform in the colours of blue, orange and purple. These colours were selected as they are the colours of reconciliation week poster for 2020. A collage of photos can be seen later in Kalori.

Tribute to Jody Beahan When we say good bye to friends and family we revisit our own pain and hurt, we visit mortality, the joys and the sorrow. We mourn for their laughter and humour, we mourn for their companionship, we reflect on the times we have spent together, we

grieve for their families and the milestones they themselves will miss.

2020 Tell them from me survey

As a result of COVID-19 the Tell Them From Me survey was put on hold across the state. However schools have now transitioned back to full time face-to-face teaching and learning, this provides a great opportunity to check-in on our students’ engagement, connection and wellbeing during this extraordinary time.

Students in years 3, 4, 5 & 6 will undertake this survey in the coming weeks. The NPS community team will be creating a number of social distancing opportunities for our community to also share their reflections and participate in this year’s survey – more details will be advised in the near future. Given the busy nature of our schools, the current survey window will remain open until the end of Term 2 (Friday, 3 July).

Opportunity classes 2021

Notes will be coming home for Year 4 parents and carers of students who are considering applying for an opportunity class placement in Year 5 2021. Information is also included in this edition of the Kalori outlining the process and providing a website where you can gain further information.

Healthy lunchboxes powering our students

Our first and second lunch initiative is encouraging lunchboxes

full of healthy choices for our students. This initiative is aimed

at reducing high sugar, salt and fat, processed snack foods in

our students' lunches.

Our students are making healthier, more sustaining choices for

their school lunches. Students are encouraged to eat a more

substantial part of their lunch at ‘first lunch’ to maintain them

through peak learning times followed by a fruit or vegetable

snack at ‘crunch and sip’ and a smaller healthy lunch option at

‘second lunch’. Our school canteen ‘Tastebuds’ has lots of

fabulous delicious healthy choices.

School photos

Personalised envelopes have been distributed to all students for school photo orders.

Our school photo day is booked for Tuesday 23 June (Term 2 Week 9) 2020. Each child

has an individual code on their envelope to allow for online ordering. Otherwise

envelopes with the correct amount of cash need to be returned to the school office

before photo day. Should you like to order a sibling photo (only students enrolled at NPS),

family order forms are available from the school office. For more information or

assistance with online ordering please contact MSP Photography on 6360 2008.

Reconciliation 2020

What is National Reconciliation Week? National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about

our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving

reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June

Our theme for National Reconciliation Week 2020 – In this together – is now resonating in ways we could not have

foreseen when it was announced last year, but it reminds us we are in this together whether in a crisis or in

reconciliation. The National Reconciliation Week 2020 theme reinforces that we all have a role to play when it comes

to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures.

Reconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals, families, communities, organisations and importantly as

a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander peoples.

PBL News

At Narromine Public School students have been learning how to show RHR on the playground by being in the right place, sharing equipment, including others and speaking nicely. Our playground sessions have changed due to recent events but we want to congratulate students on their proactive

efforts in playing safely. Students need to remember to bring a sun hat to school for playground sessions, a water bottle to drink from, leave personal toys at home and to wash their hands regularly. This week students have been engaging with activities to practise respect through speaking nicely to others. Thank you to all the students who have been speaking nicely by using manners, using nice words, and engaging with appropriate language. Well done to all the students who have been making good choices in showing respect through speaking nicely and demonstrating RHR on the playground. Teachers have been on the lookout and rewarded students doing the right thing with SuperVals for their amazing efforts.
