Denise King - Principal

Kindergarten 2018

The children who will be commencing Kindergarten in 2018

have been participating in our KinderStart Orientation

program with Mrs Hamilton and her team - Ms McKinnon,

Ms Brown and Mrs Newbigging.

This program commenced in Term 3 and concludes in

Week 5 of Term 4. Mrs Hamilton is extremely pleased with the progress the

students have made in their readiness for school. The students have had a sensational time focusing on pre-writing,

reading and number strategies, along with social and emotional wellbeing focus activities being included into their

daily routines. The children have enjoyed practicing their fine and gross motor skills with arts, crafts and physical

movement. A highlight for the 2018 Kindergarten class is getting to meet and visit the other classes within our school

community, seeing the lovely learning spaces and helping in our gardens to cultivate vegetables and monitor the

change of our seasons. We are extremely excited and look forward to the commencement of the new school year

when our little KinderStart boys and girls commence Kindergarten.

Transition to School

Transition to School continued

Firstly, Narromine Public School is

commencing next year with a

more substantial Kindergarten

readiness program which we are

calling Transition to School.

Kindergarten students starting

school in 2019 will be able to

attend the program one day per

week from 8.55-2.55pm from

Week 2 to Week 9 of each term in

2018.

Mrs Hamilton and her team have

designed a learning outline that

will consolidate and support the early learning framework, together we will be encouraging our families to continue

their preschool journey and participate in our Transition as an interwoven approach to education.

Secondly, we will have NPS’s signature orientation program, KinderStart. Kinderstart will continue as it has for the

past 3 years commencing in Week 5 Term 3 and concluding in Week 5 Term 4 from 10-2pm. Students will attend one

day per week and focus on readiness and preparation for Kindergarten 2019.

Throughout the NPS Orientation programs the children will undertake activities that build a strong sense of identity

and wellbeing, activities that support, develop and enhance literacy, numeracy and the sciences such as visiting the

library to be amerced in books, discovering our Count Me In activities, engaging in science based developmental play

lessons; and much more, all the while mixing and meeting our staff and the NPS school community. Developing

students as positive learners and active communicators who are happy, confident and social in our setting is our

goal. Engaging with families as part of the learning journey is a key component of our focus within our orientations

programs. We welcome all enquiries and encourage families to take advantage of our educational services to

enhance the first year of school for their children.

Book Fair

Mrs Craig and her library helpers are super excited this week as NPS is hosting its

yearly Book Fair. The titles and topics of this year’s books, posters and stationary

are very cool and varied. Don’t forget to collect your raffle ticket, each time you

purchase an item to go into the draw to win a book.

Please come and support our literacy fundraiser. Book Fair brings in vital

resources to the school’s library for all the children K-6 to share and delight in.

We love our library as a learning space, so lets

keep our catalogued books new and interesting

for the students.

New student teacher

Meet Mrs Elaine Sippel who is currently on her final practicum teaching 6T for the

next six weeks. Mrs Sippel is completing her Masters of Education degree at the

University of New England. She is looking forward to finally being finished and having

her own class to teach. Students in 6T are enjoying Mrs Sippel's enthusiasm as

together they learn about the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef amongst other KLAs.

Sport

This term Years 3-6 are doing swimming for sport on Fridays from

11:30am-1pm each week. Students will be taken through a series of

activities such as water confidence, water safety skills, stroke practice

and diving. All students are grouped according to the signed

permission note from term 1 and teacher judgement based on their

swimming ability. If you feel that your child is in the wrong group please send in a signed note stating which group

you feel they should be in, to their classroom teacher.

Students are reminded to bring their swimming costume, towel, hat and sun cream.

If students are not swimming one week, a signed note explaining why they are not swimming needs to be sent in to

their classroom teacher.

This Friday we have several students travelling to Tottenham for the tennis gala day. We hope the students have a

great time and hope their backhand improves throughout the day.

We would also like to wish Kuber Thakur and Abigail Ballhausen all the best this week as they are travelling to

Sydney for the state athletics carnival. We are hoping you both obtain PBs in your events.

Footy Colours Day!

The playground was awash with colour as the students donned their favourite football colours to raise funds for the

Fight Cancer Foundation. This organisation supports children and young people living with cancer so that they may

continue their education. There was a very exciting guessing competition to see how many metres Mr Geyer can kick

a football. In total the SRC raised close to $200.

Aboriginal Elder Visit

Stage 2 was lucky enough to have a visit from an

Aboriginal Elder, Tom Carney, and his daughter

Danielle Flakelar, who works for the National

Parks and Wildlife. Tom and Danielle told us a

story about how the rivers and creeks were

formed around the Macquarie Marshes. The story

was about a wedge-tail eagle that kept diving and

taking food from others. The animals decided to

take a fire stick up to the wedge-tail eagle’s nest

to take down the nest and tree.

This Aboriginal Dreamtime story explained to us

how the rivers and creeks were formed. We also

learned that being greedy and taking too much

from our environment is not sustainable. We

enjoyed listening to our guest speakers because

we found the stories interesting and informative. It also gave us a good insight into how we can look after our

environment and to be sustainable. Stage 2 is looking forward to attending the excursion to the Aboriginal Reserve

Bemunnel in Warren on Friday week 4. – 4W
