September Program by Edna Devai Our program presenter for the September Guild Meeting will be Buff Palm who is an expert Krokbragd weaver. Krokbragd is a three shaft weft faced weave from Norway that utilizes brilliant color combinations. Most commonly rugs, runners and blankets are woven with this technique.

At the afternoon mini workshop there is an opportunity of hands on learning about krokbragd. Please see the registration form on page 3.

Notes From The Past President by Bev Weaver

I want to thank the PPWG membership for electing me to be your president for the past two years. We have accomplished a lot during that time, and I am proud to have been a part of that. And, thanks to everyone who helped me with my duties as president. No one does this job alone. Also, I want to express my appreciation for the gift that I received at the May meeting. I am a con-firmed book collector, especially when it comes to weaving, spinning, dyeing and basketry books. The three books about bamboo are all beautiful and ones that I did not already have in my library. They will be wonderful additions. Now, back to the loom……..

Another year has come to an end and I want to thank Bev for the great job she did as President. I hope to live up to the same standards. I am sure everyone is looking forward to the summer and fiber activities that are planned around the country. Some of us will be attending HGA’s Conver-gence in Long Beach and will be inspired by workshops and exhibits there. Be sure to check out the fiber activities in our Colorado area and consider sending an entry to the El Paso County Fair this summer.

For those new to the board, the usual way of organizing for the upcoming year is to have a board meeting sometime late in the summer. I'm looking at setting it up during the first two weeks of Au-gust, and in July will email out several possible meeting dates to find the best day for most of the Board. All current members are welcome to attend any PPWG board meeting. If you want to at-tend a summer board meeting and are not a board member, please contact me for information about time and place. I am looking forward to a creative, educational and enjoyable guild year.

A Visit to Heather McLaren’s Flock by Susan Bowman

These British Registered Soay sheep are part of Heather McLaren's flock. They are an ancient breed that survived from the Bronze Age and that are known for their intelligence. The ewes are friendly and great mothers. Ewes are typically 55 lbs. and rams 80 lbs. They graze on a variety of plant types and are great at retarding fires. The lambs in these pictures are about a month old.

Sample Schedule

We need volunteers for weaving, dyeing, and spinning samples for the newsletter. Hopefully we will always have a

weaving, spinning, and dyeing sample for each newsletter. As you can see there are still some holes left in the sign

up sheet. If we don't have volunteers, then we won't have samples that month. If you would like to volunteer,

please let sample chairperson know.

For weaving, we need two (2) samples (6” x 6” minimum, 8” x 10.5” maximum). For spinning we need two (2)

samples which need to be butterflies approximately 4 yards long. The two (2) dyeing samples may be on fiber or

handwoven cloth. So the size of the sample will depend on the media.

The newsletter editor needs digital photos of the sample for the newsletter. Please save the photos in .jpg format

and e-mail them to [email protected] . If you do not want to take the digital photos yourself, please

give or send the samples to the newsletter editor to take the photos. Please contact the newsletter editor to make

arrangements for the photos.

Your weaving, spinning, and dyeing descriptions need to be given, mailed, or emailed to the newsletter editor, at

([email protected]). The sample chairperson will print the descriptions from the newsletter for the

sample notebooks in the library. If you have other information for the sample notebooks, please give it to the

sample chairperson at a meeting.
