LOUISIANA (GOLD) Families,

Happy July from the officers and crew of LOUISIANA

(GOLD)! The month of June flew by but was a very

successful time for the crew; many of our Sailors advanced

in rank, earning well-deserved promotions. The crew is

working hard preparing for our upcoming refit and patrol

cycle.

As we celebrate the 237th Birthday of our great republic,

this is a great time to enjoy time with friends, families and

community. The 4th of July is a celebration of who we are

as a nation and a celebration of our freedoms. I ask each of

you safely enjoy the 4th of July Holiday and thank those

who serve in uniform for what they do to preserve our

freedoms.

For notification purposes, we are sponsoring a family day

onboard the ship during the month of August. Dates were

put out at the last Family Readiness Group (FRG) meeting

and the dates will be put out to families again at the next

meeting. Family Day is a fantastic opportunity for us to

show you YOUR ship and the great Sailors who do great

work onboard. Visitors must be US citizens and children

over 6 years of age are eligible. Crewmembers will have

signup opportunities over the coming weeks and we will let

you know the request deadline to be part of the ship visit

later in July.

On behalf of the crew, thank you very much for support of

USS LOUISIANA (GOLD), our Sailors and our vital

Strategic Mission. Without your daily support and

dedication, we would not be able to do the great work our

nation demands of us.

Sincerely,

Commander Rob Peters

Happy Fourth of July!

COB’s Corner

LOUISIANA (GOLD) Families,

Summer is here! Take advantage of the numerous activities and

services available to you and your family through MWR and Fleet and

Family. A couple things of note is the Bangor Theatre is showing kids movie’s for free on Wednesday-Friday at 1300 throughout the summer

and the Bangor pool is now open on the weekends from 1200-1600.

Please take advantage of these opportunities or they may cease to

exist.

The crew is in the pre-deployment training period; as such we are committing most of our time to trainers and getting ready for the refit

period. Now is the time to ensure we are prepared for patrol both at work and home. Will’s, Power of Attorneys’, Child care plans and bill

payment plans are a few things you should be thinking about as we get

ready to leave. Having these things done now will enable you to do what you need to while we are gone. As you may know, it may not be

possible for us to assist you at all while the ship is underway if you do

not have the appropriate paperwork. Please be proactive and make sure you get this taken care of.

The Resident Energy Conservation Program starts next month and the Privatization of Jackson Park housing town hall meeting has been

moved to 25 July. Due to furlough’s both commissaries will be closed

Monday and Tuesday from July to September. On July 1st the Base Sticker policy change will go into effect, all personnel are still

required to register their vehicles but you will not receive base stickers

as you know them anymore. Certain personnel will receive a sticker that will allow them to park in designated parking areas but they will

not be used to control access to the base. There will be spot checks to

ensure your vehicle is properly registered, if you are not and are caught on base or trying to access the base your driving privileges can

be revoked.

Thank you for the increased interest in the FRG, important information

is put out at every meeting so it is very beneficial for all to attend.

As always, I appreciate everything you do to make LOUISIANA

successful.

Hello Louisiana Gold Family!

We had a great turnout at our last FRG Meeting. Thank

you to all who attended! We’re happy to announce

three new additions were voted on to the board during

the last meeting, filling all open positions. We’re all

excited to serve on the FRG board and we’d like to take

this opportunity to introduce ourselves.

Mindy Komar, President:

I am eager to get to work to create an awesome FRG! I

have no doubt that with the help of my fellow board

members and those who have already volunteered we

can make it a family oriented and uplifting environment

for our boat family. I’m excited to meet everyone and

hope to see you all at our next meeting! Chey Neumann, Secretary:

Hi my name is Chey Neumann and I am your new FRG

Secretary! I am so stoked to be a part of the FRG and I

am so excited to get to know all of you!

Veronica Whorton, Treasurer:

I am excited to be serving the Louisiana Gold family as

their treasurer. I want to help my fellow board members

improve the FRG and bring the families closer together

by having many opportunities for fundraising and get

togethers.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, July 11th at the

Bangor Chapel at 6:30pm. We invite everyone to bring

a dessert to share as we discuss future fundraisers and

events. Children and sailors are welcome! We have

also invited HM1 Humarang to speak on basic

household first aid and everyone in attendance will be

eligible to enter a drawing for a free First Aid kit! We’ll

also be giving two “First Kiss” tickets to all who attend

meetings when our sailors are home!
