As we have announced in previous newsletter editions we are moving the IMZ Avant Premiegravere Screenings 2014 to Berlin We would like to alter and renew our tra-ditional format walking a challenging and innovative path Our aim is to strengthen the connection with the audio-visual sector following a long strategic perspective We look positively forward to Berlin in February ndash ldquothe place to berdquo for everyone active in the audio-visual sector

The IMZ Avant Premiegravere Screenings will take place at Scandic Hotel Berlin three days earlier than announced before Thus all the screenings meetings the stands the networking sleeping and eating will take place in one central location from 9 ndash 12 February 2014 and the Berlinale is just around the corner Donrsquot book your flight back too early on 12 February we will have a fancy closing event at Radial-system Berlin in cooperation with ARTE Of course special rates for hotel rooms have been organised for IMZ members All the preparations are on track and more detailed information on programme submissions screenings renting a stand or special events will come to your attention in the upcoming months The next core group meeting with partners will take place end of August

Time is running and summer reaches its peakhellip Regenerate your strengths during the holiday season maybe visit one of our on-going Music Film Festivals and do not forget about our upcoming events in autumn dance screen 2013 with SDFF one of worldrsquos first dance and video competition festivals will take place 12 ndash 15 Septem-ber in San Francisco The IMZ with its partners the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Film Society had a tricky task to put together an excellent festival pro-gramme The Semi-Final Judgings for this yearrsquos International Emmy Awards will be hosted by the IMZ and take place with a wonderful Gala Event in Palais Schoumlnburg Vienna on 5 September ITF Golden Prague (12 ndash 16 October) and WOMEX 13 this time in Cardiff (23 ndash 27 October) will keep us busy too Please find further details on all these events in the following pages Put them on your agenda and meet us there freshly energized from a wonderful summer

Preselection Is Completed We have finally gotten there the prese-lection for dance screen 2013 is done

We received nearly 300 entries from all over the world and were inspired by the broad scope of interpretations within this rapidly expanding genre The IMZ together with its partners in San Fran-cisco at the San Francisco Dance Film Festival San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Film Society formed a preselection committee to determine the programming and narrow down the competition entries for our invited guest jury Each film was watched a minimum of three times in many cases more as we searched for pieces that we felt ex-

celled equally as films and as choreogra-phic works It was not an easy taskhellip Many entries generated lively discus-sions and raised challenging questionsWe appreciate the time effort and cost that went into all the submitted pro-jects Notifications were sent out end of June The jury of the competition is composed of international film video and dance experts nominated and invited by the dance screen 2013 with San Francisco Dance Film Festival working commit-tee Find all information on the dance screen 2013 Competition here and check the list of Jury Members there

Even though the weather was un-settled and some raindrops started to fall timely with the screening of LrsquoElisir DrsquoAmore in the Wild West from Baden-Baden the opening of the 23rd Film Festival was a very festive event and visited by several hundred excited people Adults as well as children were amazed by the yearly transformation of Viennarsquos Town Hall Square into a unique open-air concert place and a trendy gourmet hotspot

The Music Film Festival that took part in Iasi from 14 until 23 June 2013 was a great success More than 800 peop-le were present every evening to watch opera film highlights in the main and newly restored pedestrian zone of the city centre with its stunning buildings

The Music Film Festival was part of the FIE ndash International Educational Festival Iasi 2013 FIErsquos mission notndash from its very first edition this year ndash is to provide a creative and energetic environment for the promotion and generation of culture in every shape to enhance cultural edu-cation and actions and in particular to involve children and the next generation in cultural life of every form

FIE wants to promote cultural herita-ge and intercultural dialogue and Iasi a city of universities full of students

Alban Bergrsquos second opera Lulu was premiered in 1937 in Zurich incomple-te because Berg had died unexpectedly during the composition process Due to the controversial material and the ex-ceedingly difficult vocal parts Lulu was not performed regularly for a long time ndash and the Austrian premiere took place 25 years after the world premiere Evelyn Lear gives a breathtaking performance of Lulu At her side the German baritone Paul Schoumlffler and heroic tenor Rudolf Schock give highly appraised interpreta-tions of Dr Schoumln and his son Alwa The conductor of this Austrian premiere is maestro Karl Boumlhm (101687)

Cinderella Mariinsky II

On 18 and 19 June 2013 at the Mariins-ky II St Petersburg Telmondis has re-corded the classical ballet in three acts Cinderella choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky one of the most sought-after ballet choreographers in the worldThis Ratmanskyrsquos version which premi-ered on 5 March 2002 is performed by the Mariinsky Ballet prima ballerina Di-ana Vishneva in the title role Vladimir Shklyarov (the Prince) and Yekaterina Kondaurova (the Stepmother)

Set to music by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev and on a libretto by Nikolai Volkov after motifs from the fairytale by Charles Perrault the classic story of Cinderella is brought to life in the grand tradition of Russian ballet by the Mariinsky Ballet and the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Valery Gergiev
