Alas, winter is here and this is my final Jib Sheet as Commodore of PCYC. It’s been an enjoyable season and I take great pride in having served such devoted, hard working club members. It’s been a tough year for the economy, but I hope that the club has been an oasis and positive social networking community to help our mem- bers get out of the normal daily grind.

PASSING THE GAVELAlas, winter is here and this is my final Jib Sheet as Commodore
of PCYC. It’s been an enjoyable season and I take great pride in having served such devoted, hard working club members. It’s been a tough year for the economy, but I hope that the club has been an oasis and positive social networking community to help our mem-bers get out of the normal daily grind.
I would like to say thank you to the past commodores for words of wisdom and advice throughout the year. An additional thanks goes out to the flag officers, board members, treasurer, secretary, and house manager for being such a support and essentially running the club over the past year. It’s amazing how many people it takes to run a club, and we’re lucky to have such outgoing individuals who have taken the time to make the club an enjoyable place.
Of course, I’d like to remind the members of the Christmas Open House on Saturday the 5th of December. More importantly, the change of watch ceremony, in conjunction with the Open House, will allow me to turn over duties to Mike Towning. Rest assured, I look forward to turning over writing Jib Sheet articles to Mike, as well as dealing with rowdy club members (you know who you are)!
On a more serious note, please remember to make your nomina-tions for the Oliver True Memorial Trophy and the Shark Trophy for Skipper of the Year. These awards mean a great deal to their recipients and are well respected throughout the club.
In the lounge, the burgee collection continues to grow. Many thanks to those that have contributed by donating a burgee to the cause. If you are traveling this winter season and visit another club, please consider bringing a burgee back, to add to the collection.
It’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve the club and work with such ambitious individuals. Best of luck to Mike Towning, as the new PCYC Commodore, we all look forward to seeing the club progress over the next year. Thanks again to all those who have helped make this past year a success!

IT WAS A BLURIt’s hard to believe that my year as your Rear Commodore is
about over. It seems like just yesterday I stood before a large crowd at the change of watch and spoke with some nervousness in my voice and some personal apprehension in taking on the huge task of keeping our house and grounds in order. As I have said in the past, this is not something that one person can handle alone. With that in mind, I would like to give a great big thank you to Commodore Young for his guidance, to Vice Commodore Towning for always being there and to Eric Reynolds for his watchful eye.
Although my year was not consumed with a large project like other rear commodores have seen in past years, much was accom-plished. We were able to take care of a multitude of smaller projects such as carpeting the entrance and hallway, painting inside and out, refinishing most of the woodwork in the bar and lounge and are continuing to improve the kitchen cabinets, giving a fresh look to that well used place. We were also blessed with a bit of good luck and perfect timing which allowed us to pave the entrance road and improve the northshore road around the lagoon. It is my hope to take on the larger project of improving our main parking areas in the next few years.
One of my main themes for this year was “This place is about fun”, and boy did we have some. Thanks to the social committee for organizing the events, our members for showing up and our bartenders for providing the catalyst, we were able to make it a reality. Incoming Commodore Mike assures me that next year will even be better!
Lastly, I would like to thank my wife Nancy, my daughter Erika and my son Jason for their understanding when I wasn’t always home when expected, for their support and encouragement along the way and for allowing me serve our club in this capacity.
