Khwaja, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari, Dr. Zakir Husain and other such luminaries, at Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) in the wake of the anti-colonial activism signified by the Khilafat and the pro-independence aspirations symbolized by the non-cooperation movement of the Indian National Congress which helped to harness creative energies and the subsequent making of Jamia Millia Islamia. Its campus shifted from Aligarh to Delhi in 1925 and the foundation stone of the present campus was laid on 1st March 1930. Since then, the university has expanded and become known as a premier educational institution of the country.
