About Client: Rama University Rama University is an educational endeavour of Rama Group. Established in 1996, the University now has three campuses across North India and has been reckoned as one of the largest educational group in the region. With more than 300 eminent faculty members and state-of-the-art facilities, the university is running multiple programs across 13 professional streams.

Business Need Modern day educational institutions with state-of-the-art infrastructure require significant amount of electricity to manage its facilities. With increasing electricity costs, solar rooftop power plants have emerged as an ideal solution to cut down on electricity costs. Moreover, educational institutions can play a vital role in creating awareness about solar energy by installing rooftop solar power at its campuses. Rama University with its large campus and ample rooftop space presented an ideal situation for installation of 400 kW solar rooftop power plant in its premises. Combined with Net Metering facility, the installation has potential to substantially reduce electricity bills.

SolutionJakson provided complete turnkey EPC services for this project that included supply, erection, testing, commissioning including warranty, operations and maintenance. The plant is set up under Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) RESCO model. In this model, customers pay only for the power produced and consumed under a mutually agreed Power Purchase Agreement. Any additional units generated, is sold to power utilities using net metering facility.

A total of more than 1200 highly efficient polycrystalline solar PV module of 325 Wp rating was installed in the plant along with all other requisite items of a solar rooftop installation. The plant generates approximately 6 lakh units of green electricity every year, to be mainly used for various power requirements of the university.

The power generated by the plant is sold to the university at a subsidised rate under a 25 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed between both Jakson and Rama University, and will enable savings in the range of INR 17 to 20 lakhs per year. The plant will further help offset about 480 tons of carbon emissions per year as well.
