Listed below are the major steps followed and the costs involved in setting up a Solar Rooftop plant
however the steps and the method of setting solar rooftop may vary across regions, based on the
different local conditions such as administration, legislations , guidelines and other factors
COSTS
TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS
CAPITAL COSTS (USD/KW) TYPICAL ENERGY COSTS (LCOE-US cents/Kwh1)
Solar PV: Rooftop
Peak capacity: 3–5 kW (residential); 100 kW (commercial); 500 kW (industrial) Capacity factor: 10–25% (fixed tilt)

The owner needs to identify the purpose of setting the solar rooftop by conducting a need
assessment wherein the place of setup should also be identified.

Geo-tagging of Solar Rooftop installation in Govt. Institutions in Chandigarh
The site for solar rooftop needs to be assessed with regard to the resource available
(including shadow effects) and the energy needs & load profiling (In electrical engineering,
a load profile is a graph of the variation in the electrical load versus time). A load profile
will vary according to customer type (typical examples include residential, commercial and
industrial), temperature and holiday seasons.
There are national and state level policies and incentives for promoting solar rooftop in
India. The owner of rooftop solar should look forward to all these for attaining additional
benefits also.
The owner of the rooftop plant should identify the vendor or the installer for executing the
installation from MNRE channel partner list.

Legal and Regulatory Framework
To set up a solar rooftop, there are different modes of financing through which the
owner can get its plant financed and can avail the subsidies.
The owner and the installer collectively need to finalize the design of the Solar Rooftop
system, so that equipments can be finalized.

The owner needs to look for Contracts and Bids if there are any. This step also involves
preparation of bidding documents for the selected system including plant monitoring.
This involves Installation & Commissioning of the plant and a third-party Inspection as per the
Tender Document.

After installation and commissioning of the plant, installer needs to know the maintenance
requirements for the solar power plant. Periodic checking of the power plant also comes
under this step.
