PROCEEDINGS
Italian Society for Surgery of the Hand
The spring meeting of the society was held in Milan on April 26 and 27,1980, in honor of ALDO DE NEGRI, who was eulogized by the president for his pioneer work in the specialty. By unanimous vote, DE NEGRI was made a member of the society.
Thirty-nine papers were given, with subjects varying from preoperative care to the treatment and pathology of lesions involving tendons, bones and joints, and skin. ENRIQUEZ DE SALAMANCA from Madrid and MERLE, FOUCHER, and MICHON from Nancy and Strassburg were guest participants.
Some 200 doctors attended the sessions in this area of Italy where hand injuries are common due to the
concentration of industry around Milan. It was estimated that some forms of trauma to a hand occurs here every 4 working minutes.
A reception by the mayor closed the meeting. The XVIII annual meeting took place in Rome on
November 16, 1980, under Professor FINESCHI. The principal theme was tumors of the hand, with some free papers on varied subjects. Round table discussions covered the subject by dividing the presentations into those involving chondrogenic, osteogenic, vascular, hematopoietic, and metastatic tumors. Tumors of the soft tissues were also discussed.
