TECHNOLOGY TRENDS

Technical development is continually moving forward inall areas, which places increasingly higher demands onintegrators, such as designers and installers of auto-mation equipment. Different systems are to work smoothly together at the same time as information must be easily extracted and presented.

Salzgeber Smart Human Machine Interface is a modern software application for HMI/SCADA systems that includes many unique capabilities for both integrators and end-users.

It provides integrators with a development tool that is intuitive and easy to learn. The development time for HMI/SCADA projects is optimised by smart func-tions and effective tools.

An example is the object library where integrators canquickly and easily create new objects and modify and reuse existing ones. The figures above show some exam-ples of custom-created interfaces, assembled with our object-library. The capabilities for adaptations are extensive. The integrator creates individual systems

specific to an industry or a particular company’s needs and wishes. These systems are easily scalable, so they can grow to meet future needs.

The integrated OPC client provides major integration capabilities with PLC, I/O and other systems. The power-ful, vector-based and object-oriented graphics, along with a large number of dynamic functions, give integra-tors the capability to create optimal user interfaces and monitoring systems that increase operational reliability.

TECHNOLOGY TRENDS

Smart City Smart City is an emerging conceptual view of a city that promotes the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to engage with citizens to develop social capital and intellectual capital, to make better use of hard infrastructure (physical capital), reduce usage of environmental capital and support smart growth (sus-tainable economic development).

The inclusion of social and environmental capital distin-guishes smart cities from the more technology-laden terms of digital city and Intelligent city.

Data collection and management Sensor networks, including Wireless sensor networks and in the Internet of Things technologies are used to monitor many aspects of a city in real time, including traffic, power networks, street lighting and water/sewage systems.

Online collaborative sensor data management platforms are on-line database services that allow sensor owners to register and connect their devices to feed data into an online database for storage and also allow developers to connect to the database and build their own applications based on that data. Examples include Xively and Wiki-sensing.

On the following page some examples of the countless possibilities of these smart world applications are listed.

VIDEO SURVEILLANCE

Industrial TV with CCTV Systems by SalzgeberThe remote effect of many power station plants became a more and more difficult subject for the network group. The previous system for power station monitoring is based on the analogue cross-rail technology, which quickly meets its limits in remote transmission, however. The Mellach power station, power stations at the Danube and the power station group Malta were pilot systems for the Salzgeber technology. After a comprehensive test phase, Austria‘s leading electricity company VERBUND relies on the Salzgeber system solutions with its 116 power stations from now on.

CCTV SYSTEMS FROM SALZGEBER ARE USED INTERNATIONALLY

The technology of video surveillance used by Salzgeber and developed further in the Systemhaus has already en-sured safety at large sports events like the Olympic Games in Turin and Athens and during the soccer World Cham-pionship in Germany. The equipment of the Wörthersee stadium for the soccer European Championship 2008 was part of the long list of the Austrian references, as well as the equipment of fan zones, power stations, prisons, security companies, zoos, schools and universities.

SOCCER ECH2008 WITH CCTV BY SALZGEBER

Hundreds of thousands of spectators could enjoy the finals of the 13th soccer European Championships in the Wörthersee stadium in June 2008 without any incidents. A small but essential contribution to this was made by the Salzgeber IT- revolutionaries. 38 controllable and 4 fixed cameras ensure preventive safety in the Klagenfurt stadium. The MPEG4-based video system visualises a dedicated fibreglass backbone right on the control centre screens. The automatic alarm scenarios permit quick reaction to any events in the sectors and zoom the came-ras to the crisis points automatically.

THE CAMERAS

Systemhouse Salzgeber has a large number of IP-cam-eras with HD- and SD-resolution, digital and analogue connection options. All cameras use the state-of-the-art H.264-compression technology. Easy use of HD- and SD-cameras in one and the same network offers users flexible solutions and a great selection of IP-cameras across all price-performance categories: SNZ-standard, IP-dome for the outdoor area, fixed cam-eras, IP fix-cameras or HD minidome-cameras. System-house Salzgeber has the solution for any requirement.

RECORDING AND PLAYBACK DEVICES

The connection between two sites may be interruptedeven with the best networks, particularly in centralisedstructures with site-comprehensive systems. The localSalzgeber system is not affected by interruptions, since it can work independently on site by backup NVRs. Salzgeber uses high-performance systems for recording and playing back video. Up to 200 cameras can record at the same time at full image frequency and the recordings of up to 20 cameras can be played back in parallel and syn-chronously on one workplace. Long-term recordings, as they are used in animal research where they will run for two years or more, are no challenge for Salzgeber systems.

ENCODER & DECODER MODULE

The encoder- and decoder-modules by Salzgeber use the leading H.264-or MPEG-4-compression tech-nology. This permits even present analogue surveillance cameras and video screens to be integrated in a state-of-the-art CCTV system and digitalised. Video- and audio systems by Salzgeber transmit streams either via multicast or unicast transmission procedures. This way, the number of addresses does not limit the system architecture.

In contrast to the classic landline, voice-over-IP systemsconvert language into IP-packets and transmit them throughpermanent lines or via conventional ISDN lines in hybrid mode.Voice-over-IP telephony cannot be distinguished from conventional telephony anymore in its speech quality with the components used by Salzgeber.

The technology offers more than a pure phone system. Unified communication is the designation for progressive, quick and simple industry-comprehensive business communica-tions solutions by Salzgeber.

The unified communication centre of a company is the core of Salzgeber high-end communication. The UC-platforms used are built on state-of-the-art technology. They are open to future applications and characterised by quality and reliability.

The stock-exchange-listed French real estate and invest-ment company unibail.rodamco owns many shopping centres in European capitals. Systemhouse Salzgeber has developed and implemented a comprehensive com-munications standard for networking communication of the three sites of Vösendorf, Vienna and Bratislava. The new communications system was built on the present network infrastructure of the individual sites. This kept the costs for implementation of the new system low. A smart backup concept developed by Salzgeber offers double security for the persons responsible. If, e.g., the CU system in Vienna fails, the system shifts the functions

to Bratislava or Vösendorf. A centre for both systems keeps administration efficient and cost management slim for operation. Two objectives had to be reached for the tasks of unibail.rodamco: The shops can make calls internally free of charge with the solution implemented by Salzgeber from the communications server to the end device. This is also possible for calls to the outside on request. Security and Infodesk or facility management can be reached quickly and easily for all shop operators. Maintenance of phone numbers on the end devices is not required because the system offers central number ad-ministration. The entire communication in the Shopping

Centres has simplified and accelerated for all parties involved and specifically reduced the costs to near-zero, since the calls are made on the present data lines. The entire technical infrastructure of the three Shopping Cen-tres is reflected in Salzgeber‘s unified communications system. Status messages of the elevators, the ventilation and air conditioning centre and the emergency call sys-tems only run through the new communications system of Salzgeber. A special benefit for the service crew is that the telephony option is available in all areas of the object, even where mobile phones have no reception.

TRUCK PARKING SYSTEM OVER 3G

A site without power connection is any infrastructureoperator‘s nightmare. The high-tech company Salzgeber therefore developed a hybrid alternative energy video system (HAEVS) for the operator and creator of the Austrian motorways and roads (ASFINAG) and has been using them successfully since 2010. The truck parking place information, a project of ASFINAG for optimisation of the truck parking place situation in Austria, was taken into operation with the innovative solution of Salzgeber in October 2010. Among others, high-resolution CCT V systems are installed to provide the information on the degree of utilisation of the truck parking places available in Vienna to the truck drivers or transporters.

A wakeboard professional performs more than 100 high-action and exciting tricks per run. Like in water skiing, compliance with the rules in the different disciplines is most essential. To make sure that the jury (judges) does not miss anything and can assess the runs truly fairly, they are supported by an electronic video evidence sys-tem by Salzgeber. Four mobile units of this system have been in use in the Austrian water ski and wakeboard association since 2011. The high-end IP-cameras of the innovative in-house development have an HD-resolution and state-of-the-art H.264-compression technology

for loss-free single-frame recording and storage of 25 frames per second for the judges. By default, three cam-eras are placed by the banks of the competition route and one camera is placed at the motor boat. Only the connection to a power supply with 220 volt at the banks and 12 volt at the boat are required. All components of the Salzgeber sports video systems send and receive the data by encrypted WLAN technology. The judges receive the live images on your laptops and can call the progress of the individual competitions for analysis via the stored streams at any time.

WLAN SPORT VIDEO SYSTEMS

The mobile sports video system for events of many different sports and purposes are an innovative in-house development of Salzgeber. The high-end IP-cameras use HD resolution and the state-of-the-art H.264-compres-sion technology. This permits loss-free frame recording and storage of 25 frames per second. The system is simply built and easy to operate. Even without external power supply, the systems can be supplied with the requi-red power via photovoltaic or fuel cells. The image transfer to a laptop, or recording device takes place via WLAN. The area of use is diverse and ranges from technical ana-lysis in training to support of the jury in competitions or evidencesecuring of control items.

LASERLINK – THE VISUAL RADIO RELAY SYSTEM

High-speed data solutions by Salzgeber often leave theconventional paths without losing reliability and stability. The point-to-point laser data transmission developed bySalzgeber and used for many years (Laserlink) permitsbandwidths of one gigabit per second. A special ben-efit of the connection is that the transmission is immune tointerferences and perfectly safe against eavesdropping. The only requirement for a Laserlink solution is an unim-paired visual connection between the two points. If the laser is not blocked by anything, speech, video or data are digitalised and transferred by laser modulation.

4G GREEN CCTV – HYBRID DRIVE FOR CAMERAS

A CCT V site without power connection? The hybridalternative energy video system (HAEV) of Salzgeber makes even monitoring of the most exposed sites easy. The systems are powered only by alternative energies. Power is supplied either by a photovoltaics module or a fuel cell in hybrid mode. 25 frames per second can be transmitted loss-free as single frame with the H.264-compression technology by the high-end IP-cameras. Depending on availability, the cameras send their signal to the central control centre or a mobile re-ceiver (Notebook) with the current 3G UMTS or 4G Next Generation Mobile Networks Standard.
