NCAA RULES VIOLATIONS AT OLE MISS - DON’T LET IT HAPPEN HERE!
The University of Mississippi recently was charged with lack of institutional control after the NCAA found numerous violations in its football program. Ole Miss announced it has self-imposed a one-year bowl ban for the 2017 season and that the university must forfeit its annual portion of the SEC postseason football revenue for next year, which is $7.8 million. One of the more serious allegations states that a former staff member paved the way for two Ole Miss boosters to provide a prospective student athlete (“prospect”) with $13,000 to $15,000.
As a supporter (booster) of UCLA Athletics, please remember that you may not:
• Provide gifts or free or reduced-cost services to a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian. • Employ relatives, guardians or friends of a prospect as an inducement for the prospect’s enrollment and athletics participation at a university. • Become directly or indirectly involved in making arrangements for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian to receive money or financial aid of any kind. • Provide transportation for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian. • Provide free or reduced-cost tickets for a prospect or the prospect’s relatives or guardian to attend an athletic event. • Provide any material benefit (e.g., meals, cash) to the coach of a prospect, including high school, two-year college, AAU and summer team coaches.

Basketball Postseason Ticket Priority As an exclusive benefit for your support, all UCLA Men's Basketball season ticket holders and Wooden Athletic Fund members may now request tickets for all NCAA Tournament games that UCLA may participate in.
As a reminder, all postseason NCAA Tournament game tickets are allocated based upon WAF donor level, lifetime giving to UCLA Athletics and consecutive years of season ticket purchase. The deadline to request tickets for Rounds 1 and 2 is Sunday, March 12 at 7pm.

Capital Campaign Updates: Wasserman Football Center and Mo Ostin Basketball Center Construction on two of UCLA Athletics’ major capital campaigns, the Wasserman Football Center and the Mo Ostin Basketball Center, is approaching its final stages.
On schedule to open by the end of summer 2017, construction on the Wasserman Football Center can be seen on the west side of Spaulding Field, the practice field for UCLA Football. Contributions to date are close to 90% of the $65 million goal. The Mo Ostin Basketball Center is also on schedule to open in fall 2017. To date, the campaign has raised over $18 million, with a goal of $25 million.
Our live-streaming cam is still up and accessible by visiting www.uclafootballfacility.com and www.uclabasketballfacility.com and naming opportunities for both facilities still remain. Gifts of any amount—all 100% tax-deductible—will make a significant impact on the future of UCLA Athletics.

Men’s Basketball Scholarship Donor Dinner – February 6, 2017 Last month, UCLA Athletics hosted nearly 65 attendees, comprised of donors, coaches, and men’s basketball student-athletes, on Wooden Way in Pauley Pavilion for the 2016-17 Men’s Basketball Scholarship Donor Dinner. This annual event is a way for our coaches and student-athletes to show their appreciation to those donors who have endowed scholarships for UCLA Men’s Basketball program. Conversely, those who established scholarships enjoyed the opportunity to get better acquainted with their assigned men’s basketball student-athletes. More important, the student-athletes were given the chance to get to know and thank those individuals who make their UCLA scholarships possible.

As was announced last month, a special incentive exists through our 10K CHAMP10NS campaign. All current Wooden Athletic Fund members are encouraged to refer a friend to join the Wooden Athletic Fund which qualifies you to be entered to win a monthly prize. If you referred a friend during the month of February, you were automatically entered to win the prize for the month of February.
The winner of the February 10K CHAMP10NS Experience is Miguel Duarte from Downey. A hearty ‘Congratulations’ goes out to Miguel!

What is your favorite college sport to follow? I played college baseball and it’s a tough sport to get out of your blood…I enjoy the feeling of going out to Jackie Robinson Stadium.What is your favorite pro sport to follow? I like the NFL. My favorite team is the San Diego . . .oops, the Los Angeles Chargers. What is your favorite sport to play? Basketball; whenever possible, I play
in a weekly basketball game with a group of guys that have been hooping together for more than 20 years. We play on the outdoor courts at San Gorgonio Park, 10:00 AM on Saturdays. Since you began working at UCLA, what sport have you gotten to like that you never thought you would like? I very much enjoy water polo. I have a son who played. From a parent’s perspective, it is the perfect sport; your kid comes home tired and clean! I also like that above the surface all looks fairly calm, while underneath and out of sight all heck breaks loose. Come to think of it, that’s sometimes what it feels like for our staff on game days. What is your favorite kind of music? Favorite group, band, or musician? For the most part, I’m a country guy. Yee-Haw! I like Darius Rucker, formerly lead of Hootie & the Blowfish , before completely switching genres to country. Where would you like to travel to that you’ve never been to before? The batter’s box in the 7th game of a World Series with the game on the line.Cat person or dog person? We have the best dog ever, Olaf. I’m grooming him to be a Frisbee Dog at the Rose Bowl. What was your high school mascot? I’m a San Dieguito Mustang, also the high-school home of Michael Chang (Tennis), Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), and Tom Dempsey, my little league baseball coach. Tom was born with no toes on his right foot and no fingers on his right hand. He played seven years in the NFL.Unique fact about yourself? I witnessed perhaps the wildest play in college football history. It was 1982, Cal vs Stanford, Big Game at Memorial Stadium. I was a spotter that day for the Stanford broadcast team while working as an intern for what was then the PAC-10 Conference office. The radio call by Cal’s Joe Starkey is a classic. As I remember, I was one booth over from Joe in the old press box, separated from him by a pane of glass. Funny, you never hear the Stanford call of The Play. I still have my press credential from the game.
