ATHLETIC FUND YOUR MONTHLY RESOURCE FOR SUPPORTING UCLA ATHLETICS AND THE WOODEN ATHLETIC FUND “I would like to thank UCLA Athletics’ donors for giving me an opportunity to showcase my God given talent on the football field, as well as obtain a degree from one of the greatest universities in the world. A degree from UCLA will serve me a lifetime well after I am able to play football.” BENEFIT OF THE MONTH “THANK YOU” FROM THE BRUINS WAY OF GIVING MEET A MEMBER OF YOUR UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT TEAM INSIDE UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT Brian Smith Director of Membership and Priority Seating College: UC Berkeley, Economics, 1988 Start Date with UCLA Athletics Development: I started working with UCLA Athletics as an intern in October 1989 and gained a working knowledge in the following areas: Marketing, Event Management and Facilities. The following year, I was hired full-time as Assistant Facilities Manager and later served as Facilities Manager. In 1995, I was given the opportunity to start a career in Athletics Development. Over the years, I’ve worn many hats in the Development office and I’m proud to be able to provide some continuity and institutional recall both internally and externally. In my current role as Director of Membership and Priority Seating, I assist with the management of the Wooden Athletic Fund and also work directly with donors to increase engagement and financial support for annual, major gift, endowment and capital campaign initiatives. I also serve as the main liaison for Development with the Central Ticket Office as it relates to priority seating benefits for football and men’s basketball. Favorite UCLA Memory / Experience: There have been so many but two come to mind …. 1. The run to the 1995 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. My son was born March 8th to begin the March Madness. That was soon followed by Tyus Edney’s 4.8 second dash to beat Missouri in the 2nd Round. And, who can forget Ed O’Bannon’s leadership and the overall team’s play in Seattle to bring home the championship. 2. Attending the 2007 NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship in Los Alamitos and watching the UCLA team and Coach Krikorian bring home UCLA’s 100th NCAA Team Championship … First to 100! Favorite Professional Sports Team: From the days of Mays and McCovey …. Gotta go with SF Giants. Favorite Westwood Restaurant: Whichever has the best Happy Hour that day Favorite John Wooden Quote: “It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.” Unique Fact About Yourself: I attended a year of school in London, England (1976-77 – 6th grade). In addition, before “officially” turning old … I possessed a 38” vertical leap and played volleyball at Cal. Message to Our Donors: It’s been a privilege to work with so many of you for the same common goal … to provide the necessary resources for our Bruin student-athletes so that each and every one can achieve success in the classroom, in competition and in the community. Thank you for sharing that passion and for the lifelong friendships that have been forged along the way. I look forward to sharing in many more successes and championships in the future. And, as always, …. GO BRUINS! UCLA FOOTBALL KICKOFF DINNER Myles Jack Football · Sophomore While Tuesday’s water main break took a significant toll on the UCLA Campus, it revealed the true meaning of what it means to be a Bruin. The proactive and passionate response from UCLA volunteers, staff and student-athletes has been beyond heartwarming. On Tuesday, Bruins joined together to sweep water out from the Hall of Fame and Coach Wooden’s Den, create water blockades at the Pauley Pavilion doors, and remove unimaginable amounts of water and debris from the track at Drake Stadium. Champions truly are made at UCLA, and it is events like Tuesday that further establish the pride, passion and dedication it takes to be a Bruin. While Tuesday’s water main break took a significant toll on the UCLA Campus, it revealed the true meaning of what it means to be a Bruin. The proactive and passionate response from UCLA volunteers, staff and student-athletes has been beyond heartwarming. On Tuesday, Bruins joined together to sweep water out from the Hall of Fame and Coach Wooden’s Den, create water blockades at the Pauley Pavilion

doors, and remove unimaginable amounts of water and debris from the track at Drake Stadium. Champions truly are made at UCLA, and it is events like Tuesday that further establish the pride, passion and dedication it takes to be a Bruin.
