Here are a few facts about RING A DING DING to familiarize you with the show and build excitement around your upcoming visit:

• The title of the show refers not only to the ring-like, circular table-top stage that rotates around the central action and the “round and round” nature of Alice’s journey as she searches for her dog, but also to the use of bells in the show for music and sound effects.

• Each live character is also played by a miniature, puppet version created to look like him or her.

• All of the props and instruments used in the show are made from recycled materials.

INSIDE ART FORMPARTICIPATORY THEATERRING A DING DING is a prime example of participatory theater. Unlike other forms of theater, participatory theater (also known as interactive theater) makes the audience a part of the show by breaking the fourth wall. What is the fourth wall? It’s the invisible imaginary divider that separates the stage’s world from that of the audience. By definition it’s the wall that isn’t included when building a set - if there were four walls on stage then we wouldn’t be able to see the action! Here are some ways RING A DING DING is an interactive experience:

• A Pre-Show experience is included in which the characters and the audience meet and greet beforehand. • The performers speak to the audience directly.• Multi-sensory components are featured in the performance that include audience members (such as turning the round playing

space) and get them moving on their feet (learning a dance on the moon!).

PUPPERTYOily Cart uses the art form of puppetry to bring the story of RING A DING DING to life. A puppet is an artificial figure represent-ing a living character that is manipulated and brought to life by a puppeteer through the use of hands, rods, wires, and/or other means. Many of the puppets and props used in the show are created from recycled materials.

ObjECT PUPPETRY is the animation of ordinary and found objects in their original or altered forms. Everyday objects take on life to tell stories to the audience.
