Japanese film history
• Japan has one of the largest and oldest film industries • Godzilla is one of their most famous films produced as well as samurai and Tokyo story.• Most early Japanese films were silent and had narrators doing dramatic readings over the top• During the 1940s due to world war II there was a dramatic fall in films produced due to the dip in
economy at the time. Cinema at this time was used as a propaganda tool.• The 1950s was when the first coloured film was released, and the famous Godzilla• The 1970s saw a drop in cinema audiences because of more people acquiring televisions• From the 1990s onwards the cinema audiences has steadily increased in number due to the new
complexes being built and more and more films being released.

Godzilla
• Produced in 1954 by Toho
• The story is about a giant monster who is effected by nuclear radiation and terrorises Japan
• This idea of a nuclear disaster is something that Japan could relate to due to the nuclear disaster the experienced first hand.
Anime films (animation)
• The oldest know anime film was produced in 1917• They are sourced from Japanese history and
literature.• The most famous worldwide known anime is
Nintendo's Pokémon.• Although most anime is directed for adults.• Anime is regularly broadcasted on Japanese
television
