Local Information

Conference Site

The conference will take place in the Wates House on the University of Surrey campus. Its location is marked on the attached campus map.

From the YMCA, the University campus can be reached within 10-15 minutes by foot.

From the Carlton Hotel, it takes about 25-35 minutes by foot to campus. Alternatively, there is a public bus from London Road to the Austin Pierce Building on the University campus (the bus stops are marked on the attached campus map):

Travel informationHeathrow Airport - Guildford

• By Taxi (£39 per car): Taxi Beeline +44 (0)1483 823232Contact the taxi company a few days before your arrival or departure with your airline and flight number information: they will pick you up at the airport or the hotel.

• By Coach:The Woking Rail-Air Link runs every 30 minutes from Heathrow (all terminals) to Woking Station and back. Inside Heathrow, follow the signs to “Local Buses” or “Buses” (do not go to the central bus station). The schedule and the platform information for each terminal can be found on the next page. You can buy tickets (£8 single) from the National Express ticket counter in Terminals 1, 3 and 4 or on the coach when leaving from Terminal 2. The journey to Woking takes about 45 minutes.From Woking Station, take a train toward Portsmouth Harbour to Guildford Station which is the next stop. Alternatively, take a taxi from Woking Station directly to the hotel in Guildford (around £12-15).

Gatwick Airport - Guildford

• By Taxi (£44 per car): Taxi Beeline +44 (0)1483 823232Contact the taxi company a few days before your arrival or departure with your airline and flight number information: they will pick you up at the airport or the hotel.

• By Train:Trains to Guildford Station run roughly every hour from the train station in the South Terminal: Take trains toward Reading via Redhill – do not go via Clapham Junction. A single ticket costs around £9. The journey takes roughly 45 minutes. Train information can be found online at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

Guildford Station - Hotel

• Carlton Hotel: A taxi from the Station to the hotel is about £3-5.

• YMCA: The YMCA is a very short walk away from the station (see the attached map).

Newton Institute Coach from Cambridge to Guildford

• Cambridge to Guildford:Departure from the Newton Institute (front entrance) on Monday, 19 September 2005, at 9:00 am.

• Guildford to Cambridge:Departure from the Carlton Hotel on Friday, 23 September 2005, at 14:30 pm

By Car

• Exit the M25 at Junction 10 onto the A3 toward Guildford. Take the Burpham/Merrow exit (which is easy to miss!). Keep straight at the first mini roundabout, and turn left on the next major roundabout onto London Road. Keep straight until you see the Carlton Hotel to your left.

Welcome to the South West TrainsRailair coach service which willtake you direct from your localstation via Woking to any of thefour air terminals at LondonHeathrow (and return).

FastDepartures every 30 minutesthroughout the majority of the day,seven days a week#. With ajourney time of less than an hour,the Woking Railair is the mostconvenient link between WokingStation and Heathrow Airport.

Arriving at WokingOn arrival by train at Wokingstation, follow the Railair signs tothe exit on platform 5. There is alift service linking all platforms. The coach leaves from immediatelyoutside the station. RailairCustomer Service staff will be onhand to assist you if required.

Returning from HeathrowFinding the Railair coach is simple.Just follow the yellow signs marked'Railair Link' with a yellow coachsymbol to the door of the Arrivals Hall.

Check-in timesPlease check your airline ticket orcontact your airline for advice oncheck-in times. As a general guide:

International flightsMinimum 3 hours prior to departure.
