Indian poultry sector has undergone a paradigm shift in structure and operations in the last few decades.

From being a mere backyard activity, Poultry sector has metamorphosed into a major commercial agri

based industry. Poultry is one of the fastest growing segments of the agricultural sector in India with

around eight per cent growth rate per annum. The constant efforts in upgradation, modication and

application of new technologies paved the way for the multifold and multifaceted growth in poultry and

allied sectors. India ranks 3rd in egg production and 7th in chicken meat production in the world. The

Poultry Industry is contributing about Rs.90,000 crores to the national GDP and providing employment to

more than 5 million people either directly or indirectly.

The Indian Poultry Industry has grown largely due to the initiative of private enterprises, minimal

government intervention, and very considerable indigenous poultry genetics capabilities, and support

from the complementary veterinary health, poultry feed, poultry equipment, and poultry processing

sectors. Several individuals and institutions have played seminal roles in the development of the poultry

industry. They need to be admired and recognized. Agriculture Today Group as the media and policy

catalyst has always been on the forefront in providing information, inuencing policies, creating business

networks and recognizing performers. The institution of India Poultry Awards is a small step in this

direction to further the cause of Indian poultry sector and spur innovation and productivity.

Agriculture has been the primary occupation of human beings. What began as a means of survival, has today emerged as a significant economic

activity around the world. Agriculture has transformed in various ways from subsistence to affluence, from traditional to technological, from

undefined to precise, and the pace has rapidly accelerated in the last one decade with the globalization and technological advancement. In this journey

of transformation media has played critical roles. Still there is a long way to go in making the planet free from hunger and malnutrition.

Increasing population, changing climate, diminishing resources and increasing disposable incomes have put agriculture worldwide under tremendous

pressure. While the developed countries moved up in food, nutrition and health chain through technological advancements, second and third world

countries are grappling with challenges in farming and food production. Developing and underdeveloped nations in order to boost agriculture and

unlock the potential of trade and technologies, need cooperation and collaboration and global experiences at an accelerated pace.

The experiences of the country like India, which pulled out over 500 million people from the jaws of hunger deaths through Green Revolution,

provides excellent learning experiences for most of the African and many of the Asian and Latin American countries with its experiences and diversity

of learning through Green Revolution in food production, White Revolution in milk, Blue Revolution in fisheries and Golden Revolution in

horticulture production. Agriculture Today Group, headquartered in New Delhi benefits hugely by the Indian experiences as also the Asian, European

and American experiences.
