Roman Missal- Question and Answer Source: “A Guide to the New Translation of The Mass” by Edward Sri
When will we start using the new translation? The new translation will be officially promulgated for use
in the liturgy on November 27, 2011, which is the first Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the Church’s new liturgical year.
The Homily The ambo, or pulpit, is a special place—it is the place for God’s word. That is why it is not used for all the spoken words of the Mass, even important words like the collects and the blessing. The ambo is only used for the scripture readings, and for the homily and the prayer of the faithful. The homily is part of the Liturgy of the Word. It flows from the readings we have just heard, and helps us to understand the way in which God is speaking to us today. The homily is not a lecture, a catechism lesson, or a speech. It is more like an exhortation; it has an urgency about it, for it calls us to find ourselves in the scripture, to live the faith we profess, to see our world by the light of the Gospel. The homily, in itself a response to God’s word, demands a response from us. There are many styles of preaching and many ways to respond to the scriptures. But whether the homily is weak or strong, an open ear and an open heart can find in it an abundance of spiritual nourishment.

How to Understand Your Kids’ Text Messages If you’ve read your child’s text messages, you might think he or she has learned a second language. Texting has replaced email for most young people today.
And, like any form of communication, parents have a responsibility to make sure that their children use texting as safely as possible. As a parent or guardian,
take time to learn some of the texting lingo. Also, be alert that some predators use texting to send sexually explicit messages to unsuspecting young people.
A helpful tutorial for parents is located at www.mahalo.com. Type: “How to understand your kids’ text messages” in the search box. For particular help,
you may call Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

Our Parish Fiesta will begin on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the 5:00 P.M. Mass. The Mass will be preceded by a Novena to our Patroness, Mary Immaculate
and a Flores De Mayo, a flower festival in the whole month of May in honor of Mary. Following the Mass will be a Santacruzan.
Santacruzan is one of the most colorful May-time festivals in the Philippines
which depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great. The festivity commemorates the search of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena (Reina Elena) and her son, the newly converted
emperor Constantine. After the cross is found in Jerusalem and brought back to Rome, there was a joyful celebration of thanksgiving. This festival was
introduced by the Spaniards in the Philippines and since then became part of Filipino tradition in many cities, towns, and villages in the Philippines and in
place where Filipinos migrate to including here in the U.S.
Several women and girls of our parish will process around the neighborhood for this event in beautiful attires representing a saint or a biblical character,
some with escorts. The procession will conclude in the school auditorium with the crowning of Reina Elena and a dinner-dance.
Tickets at @10.00 each are available for those who would like to attend the
dinner-dance. Please call the office for more information.
We’d like to thank the 12 women and children who have participated in our first Santacruzan of our parish fiesta. Each of them has contributed in
promoting the sale of tickets and in getting ads for our souvenir program. Whoever will submit the highest sale of tickets and funds from
advertisements will be crowned Reina Elena.
The Parish Fiesta will continue on the following day, Sunday May 22, 2011 with international food, music, games, and the grand drawing of tickets.
Please come with all your relatives and friends!
