VPN access to corporate data using the Nokia 770

Stinghorn Presents World's First VPN Solution for Nokia 770 Internet Tablet

Stinghorn Ltd, a Finnish-based software solution vendor specialized in secure IP connectivity, has today released world's first ready and commercially available VPN solution for the new Nokia 770 Internet Tablet -device.

As the very first product in the world Stinghorn's new VPN solution offers secure remote connections also to users of the Nokia 770 Internet Tablet device. With Stinghorn Secure Business Suite solution Nokia 770 Internet Tablet devices can be securely connected to organizations' internal networks, just like laptop computers and other more traditional mobile devices. When real secure VPN connections are in use, all internal network services like email, instant messaging, VoIP and file servers as well as printers can be used remotely.

"New Nokia 770 VPN solution is immediately available directly from Stinghorn as well as from our partner companies.", states Stinghorn's Sales Manager Teemu Åkerman. "We see that secure remote access should be easy to use and commonly available in organizations of all sizes. To achieve this we deliver our solutions mostly in turn key principle, so all the end customer must do is start benefiting from the ready system. The price of the Stinghorn's solution depends greatly on the needed features, does customer for example need high availability extensions or not. How ever, as an example, we can mention that in an average sized installation to a medium sized company, remote connections cost about 6 euros (7,15 USD) per remote device per month.", continues Åkerman.

Utilizing secure VPN connections with Nokia 770 Internet Tablet device requires installation and implementation of a VPN client software released by Stinghorn. The needed software is distributed freely under GPL license to everybody through Stinghorn's Internet service. Stinghorn also offers VPN implementation as a service. "We want to advance the general utilization of secure remote connections as well as offer Open Source Community a possibility to polish the VPN client further or for example integrate it to other software products", add Mr. Tomi Ollila and Mr. Mika Boström from Stinghorn's mobile product development team. The freely distributed client software

enables automatically secure VPN connections to Stinghorn Secure Business Suite's L2TP/IPsec VPN gateway.

Stinghorn Secure Business Suite

As a sole solution in the world Stinghorn SBS offers one single VPN gateway that can be used to create secure VPN connections from Nokia 770 Internet Tablet and from all major operating systems: Windows XP/2000, Mac OS X Tiger/Panther and Linux as well as from PDA devices and SmartPhones based on Windows Mobile operating system. Nokia 770 requires an additional VPN client software distributed by Stinghorn to be able to benefit from secure connectivity, while in all other operating systems VPN connections can be created without any client installations, using the integrated VPN client software.

In case there is a need for high availability, several VPN gateways can be set up parallel and the traffic can be divided in between them. Stinghorn SBS enables also the geographical distribution of the VPN gateways, which raises the reachability of the entire system even more. Whatever the final solution will be, only one Management System and only one user database will be used for the management. Naturally secure VPN connections can be created also through often problematic Network Address Translation, NAT. Unlike many of it's rivals, Stinghorn SBS enables secure VPN connections even if there are numerous separate users behind one and a same NAT device!
