Observe the way your heartbeat affects the behavior of a sculpture, and bring your own invention to life in a space that is part tinkerer’s workshop and part artist’s studio. Immerse yourself in the methods of innovative thinking through hands-on, interactive exhibits that use unique materials, sounds and light. Don’t Try is at Home is the Fleet’s series of live shows that explore science that’s too messy, too noisy and too hair-raising to do at home! Ever wonder what would happen if you combined a leaf blower and a roll of toilet paper? See how shocking science can be when you volunteer for the Chain of Pain! All shows last approximately 20 thrilling minutes and can accommodate just over 100 brave visitors for four different shows throughout the day. Whatever you do ... Don’t Try is at Home! See the show in the Lecture Hall, next to the Heikoff Giant Dome eater. POWER PLAY SAN DIEGO Built exclusively for the Fleet, Power Play San Diego challenges visitors try to keep the power grid in balance while maximizing the use of renewable energy sources. You’re in charge of the grid, with the responsibility of delivering power from the production sources to homes, offices, schools and other businesses in San Diego. DEC.12—Exploring Ethics: Neglected Diseases: Can Social Good Trump Pro�t? Join us as Dr. James McKerrow discusses the challenges and ethical considerations of developing drugs for diseases without pro�table �nancial markets for their treatment. In conjunction with the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology, the Fleet welcomes guests to encounter science from an ethical viewpoint and explore how science can best serve society. DEC. 7—Senior Monday Lecture. Finding Balance: Research and Outreach on a Foundational Motor Skill. Balancing skills lie at the foundation of all movement. Since balance is a motor skill, it is trainable. Dr. Chukoskie will describe studies that train balance and detail how improvements may sca�old other skills across the lifespan. �e �rst Monday of the month, seniors 65+ enjoy the Science Center exhibits, a lecture and a Giant Dome �eater show at a discount! 10:30 a.m. lecture; noon theater show; seniors $8, adults $19.95.

DEC. 8—Teacher Workshop: Spotlight on San Diego Science. A local scientist, engineer or researcher will provide information that will be useful for teachers in the classroom. 5–7 p.m.

DECEMBER—Tinkerers’ Club. Join us Saturday mornings to learn new skills and work on fun projects that you get to take home with you. $12 members; $15 nonmembers

DEC. 17—Fleet Night of Science Special Edition: Star Wars: �e Force Awakens screening. Be among the �rst to see Star Wars: �e Force Awakens at an exclusive private screening with the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. Meet R2D2, hang with Stormtroopers from the 501st Legion and enjoy drinks and food from local restaurants and breweries. DEC. 19—Derby Track Debut. Join the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center for a day at the racetrack inside our exhibit galleries. Participants will design, decorate, re�ne and race their own derby cars on the Fleet’s brand new racetrack. Noon to 4 p.m. Activities free with paid admission.

DEC. 21–23—�e Fleet Inquiry Institute for Teachers—Winter Inquiry Institute. Using hands-on experiences and re�ection, the Winter Inquiry Institute will give teachers a foundation in science inquiry. $30 per person. 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

DEC. 21—Winter Camps. �e Fleet is o�ering two weeks of full-day science fun this winter! Grades 1–3 can enjoy camp themes based on Imaginate—the Fleet’s current exhibition that’s built on creativity and the process of innovation. Grades 4–6 can enjoy the Minecra� Computer Programming Camp provided by �oughtSTEM. NOV. 12—Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar. 50 scientists fan out to 25 bars all over San Diego County to enjoy something we all do: a beer and good conversation. NOV. 19—Fleet Inquiry Institute for Teachers— NGSS Life Science: Grades 3–5. �is month we focus on activities for grades 3-5 aligned with LS1: From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes. A�endees will leave the workshop with ready-to-use lessons plans and ideas. $15 per person. 5–7 p.m. in the Community Forum.
