The Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time Readings: Jb 38:1, 8–11; 2 Cor 5:14–17; Mk 4:35–41

Though we re-enter Ordinary Time already knowing that Jesus is the Son of God (see the centurion’s words at the end of the Palm Sun-day Passion reading from Mark’s Gospel), the long succession of Sun-days confronts us again with the question that each Christian commu-nity, each individual Christian faces continually throughout life: “Who is this?” (Mark 4:41), and prompts an “examination of conscience” re-garding the practical consequences of our response. This year’s Gospel readings from Mark suggest that we find our answer in the cross and in the Eucharist. Today’s stark challenge of Jesus’ call to discipleship is, thankfully, balanced by the comfort we can take in relating—perhaps only too well—to the disciples’ fears. Though we welcome Jesus in Word and Eucharist Sunday after Sunday, don’t we all, from time to time during our lives’ “ordinary time,” experience Jesus’ “real ab-sence”?

SEA AND WIND As always in Ordinary Time, today’s Old Testament sets the stage

for the Gospel. God, who in Jesus will “rebuke the wind” and “command the sea to be still” (Mark 4:39), “addresses Job out of the storm” (Job 38:1), speaking to the turmoil in Job’s heart, calling to mind the primal chaos of creation’s untamed sea, reminding Job that God’s mighty word then was enough to command order and bring forth life. In today’s Gospel, the disciples’ fear, even near despair, takes center stage. Are any of us strangers to such emotions? Squall-force winds buffet their boat, waves break over it, and Jesus might as well not be there. Mark’s account is especially grim. Alone among the evangelists, he tells us that Jesus is in the stern, the very back of the boat, not just asleep—sound asleep! Only Mark adds the detail, “on a cushion” (4:38).

AWAKEN CHRIST Though we welcome Jesus in Word and Eucharist Sunday after Sun-

day, haven’t we all, from time to time, experienced Jesus’ “real ab-sence”? This personal application should comfort us, as it has genera-tions of disciples before us. Though the “boat” is, primarily, a symbol of the Church, never forsaken by Christ, carried safely across time’s stormy waters, Saint Augustine preaching on this very Gospel sixteen hundred years ago noted that, since each of us is a temple of God, each one’s heart is a sailing boat. Consider any temptation, says Au-gustine, as “the wind, the surging of the sea,” and do what the disci-ples did: wake up Christ, “the sleeper in your heart,” by recalling his words and commands. Then be like the wind and the sea: “The sea obeys him, the wind is still.” Whenever emotions make our hearts tur-bulent, whenever Christ seems absent or at least asleep, “let us not despair but awaken Christ, so that we may sail in quiet waters, and reach at last our heavenly homeland.”

Re-open church and re-start activities As bishop DiMarzio asked all the parishes reopen 100%, we

reopened our church last week. But mask is still required inside the church places and rectory, please. Thanks be to God, everything looks good so far. I encourage all our parish groups to come back to be active as before. Each group may have its own place and time according to the schedule before the pandemic. Some groups already re-started their activity last week.

Farewell Party for Fr. Do On this Father’s Day, June 20, we make a special prayer for

all the fathers. On that day, after the 12:15 Chinese mass, we will

have a very wonderful BBQ party for our Rev. Fr. Vincentius Do.

He has been serving our community for more than seven years.

He loves all of us. He dedicates all his strength, energy and

talents to us. He is an excellent pastor in our parish. We deeply

appreciate his hard working here. We pray for him. May God

bless his new mission assignment in St. Michael in Queens. We

look forward to expecting his visitation to us anytime. Please join

us for this party. All are invited. Please love and protect our properties Two Saturdays ago, there was a big problem with our

church’s bathroom system. As everyone knows, the bathrooms were out of order last Sunday. It was not convenient to everyone. I apologize to it. But we must realize that someone made the trouble for all of us. Probably someone threw paper towel or mask or something else into the toilet, so that our water pipe was totally stacked. The church basement was flooded. It

was a big damage. Sunday evening, two of our parishioners came to fix it, but they were not able let water flow away. We called the National Wild company to help us. The next day (Memorial Day), two gentle men spent four hours to resolve the problems. From beginning until the end, Mr. David Rayes accompanied them, he made a sacrifice to us in his holiday. They did a great job. I personally thank all of them. I deeply appreciated them all. Allow me to encourage all our parishioners to love our properties and protect it, please. Do not throw anything which may cause problems to our bathrooms into the toilets.

Duodécimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Lecturas de hoy: Job 38:1, 8–11; 2 Cor 5:14–17; Mc 4:35–41

Aunque volvemos a reempezar el Tiempo Ordinario sabiendo que Je-

su s es el Hijo de Dios (le ase atentamente las palabras del centurio n en la lectura de la Pasio n del Domingo de Ramos del Evangelio de Marcos), la extensa serie de domingos nos enfrentan con la pregunta que cada comu-nidad cristiana, cada uno de los cristianos afronta continuamente a lo lar-go de la vida: “¿quie n es este?” (Marcos 4:41), y nos impulsa a hacer “un examen de conciencia” sobre las consecuencias practicas de nuestra res-puesta. Las lecturas para este an o del Evangelio de Marcos sugieren que encontremos nuestra respuesta en la cruz y en la Eucaristí a. El reto claro de hoy de la llamada de Jesu s al discipulado esta , afortunadamente, balan-ceado con el consuelo que tenemos al relacionarse, quiza demasiado bien, con los temores de los discí pulos. Aunque demos la bienvenida a Jesu s en la Palabra y la Eucaristí a domingo tras domingo, ¿no hemos experimenta-do todos, de vez en cuando, durante “el tiempo ordinario” de nuestras vidas, la “ausencia real” de Jesu s?

EL MAR Y EL VIENTO Como siempre en el Tiempo Ordinario, las lecturas de hoy del Antiguo

Testamento preparan el escenario para el Evangelio. Dios que, en Jesu s, “reprendera el viento” y “mandara calmar el mar” (Marcos 4:39), “se diri-ge a Job desde la tormenta” (Job 38:1), hablando desde la confusio n de su corazo n, recordando a Job que entonces la Palabra poderosa de Dios bas-taba para con una orden devolver la vida. En el Evangelio de hoy, el miedo de los discí pulos, incluso su desesperacio n, es el protagonista. ¿Acaso al-guno de nosotros es ajeno a esas emociones? Los vientos de la borrasca golpean la barca, las olas rompen sobre ella y Jesu s podrí a no estar ahí . El relato de Marcos es particularmente triste. Solo entre los evangelistas, e l nos cuenta que Jesu s esta en la popa, en la parte trasera de la barca, y no solo dormido, sino que esta profundamente dormido. Ú nicamente Marcos an ade el detalle “sobre un cojí n” (4:38).

DESPERTAR A CRISTO Aunque acojamos a Jesu s en la Palabra y la Eucaristí a domingo tras

domingo, ¿acaso no nos ha pasado a todos que experimentamos, de vez en cuando, la “ausencia real” de Jesu s? Esta experiencia personal deberí a reconfortarnos, como así ha sucedido con generaciones de discí pulos an-tes que nosotros. Aunque ante todo la barca es un sí mbolo de la Iglesia, nunca abandonada por Cristo, llevada con seguridad a trave s de las aguas tormentosas del tiempo, san Agustí n al predicar sobre este mismo Evan-gelio hace mil seiscientos an os, sen alo que, puesto que cada uno de noso-tros es un templo de Dios, el corazo n de cada uno es una barca de vela. San Agustí n dice: considera cualquier tentacio n como “el viento, el oleaje del mar”, y haz lo que hicieron los discí pulos, despierta a Cristo, “el dur-miente en tu corazo n”, recordando sus palabras y mandamientos. Luego se como el viento y el mar: “El mar lo obedece, el viento esta tranquilo”. Siempre que las emociones hagan turbulento nuestro corazo n, siempre que Cristo parezca ausente o al menos dormido, “no nos desesperemos, sino despertemos a Cristo, para que podamos navegar en aguas tranqui-las, y llegar por fin a nuestra patria celestial”.

Reabrir iglesia y reiniciar actividades Como pidio el obispo DiMarzio, todas las pa-

rroquias deben reabrir al 100%, nosotros reabri-

mos nuestra iglesia la semana pasada. Pero toda-

ví a se requiere usar ma scara dentro de los lugares

de la iglesia y la rectorí a, por favor. Gracias a Dios,

todo se ve bien hasta ahora. Animo a todos nues-

tros grupos parroquiales a que vuelvan a estar

activos como antes. Cada grupo puede tener su

propio lugar y hora de acuerdo con el horario pre-

vio a la pandemia. Algunos grupos ya reiniciaron

El pro ximo martes 22 de junio, el grupo Caris-

ma tico se reunira en la Iglesia de Abajo para orar,

de 7:00PM a 9:30PM, comenzando con el Santo

Rosario. Todos los miembros de este grupo son

Fiesta de despedida del Padre Do El dí a del Padre, 20 de Junio, haremos una ora-

cio n especial por todos los Padres. Despue s de la

Misa China de las 12:15PM, tendremos una mara-

villosa fiesta de barbacoa para nuestro Reverendo

Padre Do. Ha estado sirviendo a nuestra comuni-

dad durante ma s de siete an os. E l nos ama a todos

y nos ha dedicado toda su fuerza, energí a y talen-

to. Ha sido un excelente pa rroco para nuestra pa-

rroquia. Apreciamos profundamente su arduo tra-

Hace dos semanas, hubo un gran problema

con el sistema de ban os de nuestra iglesia. Como

todos saben, los ban os estaban fuera de servicio el

domingo pasado. Fue un inconveniente para to-

dos. Me disculpo por ello. Pero debemos recono-

cer que alguien causo estos problemas para todos.

Probablemente alguien arrojo toallas de papel, o

una ma scara o algo ma s al inodoro, de modo que

nuestra tuberí a de agua quedo totalmente atasca-

da. La Iglesia de Abajo se inundo . Fue un gran da-

n o. El domingo por la noche, dos de nuestros feli-

greses vinieron a arreglarlo, pero no pudieron ha-

cer que el agua fluyera. Llamamos a la compan í a

de plomerí a National Wild para que nos ayudara.

Al dí a siguiente (Dí a de los Caí dos), dos caballeros

dedicaron cuatro horas a resolver los problemas.

Desde el principio hasta el final, los acompan o el

Sr. David Reyes. Ellos hicieron un gran trabajo. Yo

personalmente les agradezco a todos ellos. Les

Construcción

Del 28 de junio al 2 de julio, la escuela pu blica

896 tendra un trabajo de construccio n en el esta-

cionamiento de nuestro convento. Durante este

tiempo, no se estacione adentro. Las misas entre

常年期第十二主日 当日读经：约 38：1；8-11 格前5：14-17 谷 4：35-41

虽然我们再次进入常年期时已经知道耶稣是天主之子(参见圣

枝主日马尔谷福音里百夫长的话)，长长的一连串的主日再次让我

们面对每个基督徒团体及每个基督徒一生都在不断问的问题：

“这人到底是谁？”(谷4:41),并促使我们对我们回应的实际后果

进行“良心省察”。今年诵读的马尔谷福音建议我们从十字架和

圣体圣事中寻找答案。欣慰的是，今天耶稣召叫门徒的严峻挑战

可以被我们得到的安慰取得平衡，就是门徒们的恐惧。虽然我们

每个星期天都在圣言及圣祭中欢迎耶稣，但我们不是都在平常的

生活中，不时地经验到耶稣的“真正缺席”吗？

海与风 常年期里总是如此，今天的旧约读经为福音奠定了基础。在耶

稣内的天主将“叱呵风”并“叫海平静”(谷4:39)，在“旋风中

向约伯发言”(约38:1)，对约伯心中的骚动说话，让人想起受造

界中未被驯服的大海的混沌，提醒约伯天主大能的圣言足以建立

秩序并带来生命。在今天的福音里，门徒们的恐惧，甚至近乎绝

望，占据了中心位置。我们当中有人对这种情绪感到陌生吗？狂

风吹过他们的船，海浪打进船里，好像耶稣不在一样，马尔谷的

记载尤其糟糕。在四位圣史中，独有他告诉我们，耶稣在船尾，

船的最后面，不只是睡着了-而且睡得很香！只有马尔谷加了这个

细节：“依枕而睡”(4:38)。

唤醒基督 虽然我们每个主日都在圣言和圣祭中欢迎耶稣，但我们也时不

时地经验到耶稣的“真实缺席”吗？这个经验应该安慰我们，因

为在我们之前有世世代代的门徒们。虽然福音中“船”主要象征

乡。”

教堂全面开放 我们教区的主教要求所有的堂区全面开放，

因为我们很多人已经接种了疫苗，相对来说有一

点安全了。全面开放对我们所有人都有好处，尤

其对年轻人，他们需要社交活动，不能整天上网

课和打游戏，他们需要身心灵的健康。尽管教堂

全面开放了，但我们仍然要注意：在堂里戴上口

罩，用洗手液擦拭双手，保持一定的距离。

请珍爱和保护教堂的财产

两个星期前我们教堂内所有洗手间都坏

了，可能有人向马桶里扔下了不该扔东西

把下水道堵住了，以至于教堂地下室被水

淹了，情况很严重。当天晚上我请人来修

理，他们用了两个多小时都未能修好。第

二天，我请专业公司的人来修，他们花了

四个多小时，费尽周折才把下水道修好。

可见这次洗手间的堵塞的情况是多么的严

重呀！在此我提醒大家千万别把任何可能

导致下水道堵塞的东西扔进马桶里面。请

大家尽可能地爱护我们教堂的财产，保护

教堂所有的东西。

欢送宴会

6月20号，星期天，是今年的父亲节，

在这一天我们为堂区的所有为人父者献上

特别的祈祷。当天中文弥撒后我们要为杜

神父举办一个BBQ的欢送宴会。七年多

来，杜神父辛辛苦苦地在我们堂区服务。

他深深地爱着我们每一个教友。他把自己

所有的精力和才能都奉献给我们。他是一

位非常出色的本堂司铎。我们对他表示深

深的敬意。我们为他祈祷，求天主降福他

在圣迈克教堂的新使命。同时，我们也期

待他常常“回家”来看看。届时，请大家

积极地前来参加烤肉宴会。欢迎每一位教

友。

关闭街道

公立学校 896，就是目前租用我们的学

校建筑的校长卢德·罗德里格斯·里维拉女

士通知我们，该校已获得城市许可，可以

在6月16日这一天关闭七大道和八大道之

间的48街，从早上7：00点到下午2：00点

钟。所以，在这一天内请大家不要把自己

的车停在48街上，也不要把车停在教堂和

修女院的停车场内，停在里面的人如果当

天要出车一定要在早晨7：00之前把车开

出去。请大家务必配合。谢谢。

修建护栏

6/28至7/2号，公立学校896将在修女院

的停车场内修建一个护栏，届时，为了大

家的安全请不要把车停在里面。同时，这

个星期的弥撒都在大教堂里举行。
