Concurrency of Learning
Concurrency means teaching the curriculum in a
schedule that consistently exposes the student to all
of their subjects and the core, over the two years of

Approaches to teaching
Teaching in the DP should demonstrate a
concurrency of learning and be approached in a way
which is:
• Based on inquiry
• Focused on conceptual understanding
• Developed in local and global contexts
• Focused on effective communication and collaboration
• Differentiated to meet the needs of all learners
• Informed by assessment (formative and summative)

• The IB works with universities in nearly 140

• The Diploma Programme is graded over 45 points giving ample scope to differentiate student ability
• Diploma Programme assessment includes both final examinations and internal assessment undertaken by the teacher to IB criteria and then externally moderated by the IB.
• All examiners are „quality checked‟ through a process of moderation.
• The IB undertakes random inspections of schools during exams.
• Results are published on 5 July for May exams (predominantly northern hemisphere schools) and 5 January for November exams (predominantly southern hemisphere schools).
Oxbridge
• Cambridge - Offers are regularly made on the International
Baccalaureate, at a level of between 7,6,6 and 7,7,7 in the Higher Level subjects, with overall scores between 38 and 42 points out of 45. Standard Level subjects are broadly
comparable to AS Levels, and Higher Level subjects to A Levels
(www.cam.ac.uk).
• Oxford - For students studying the International Baccalaureate, colleges will normally be looking for candidates who are likely to achieve at least 38 points. Many of our offers will normally be set at a higher level than this however, and will often specify 6 or 7 in one or more subjects at the higher level. (www.ox.ac.uk)
