The defnition o hypothesis :A hypothesis may be defned as a proposition or set

o propositions set orth as an explanation o theoccurrence o some specifc group o phenomena .

A research hypothesis is a predictive statement

capable o being tested by scientifc methods .

It is an assuption or or a supposition which has to beproved or disproved .

hould be precised ! concised ! capable o beingtested and able to relate to at least " variables

It is a ormal #uestion that has to be resolved or a

    researcher .

Hypotheses are predictions the researcher ma(esabout the expected relationships among variables.

2esting o hypotheses employs statistical procedures in

which the investigator draws inerences about thepopulation rom a study sample. Hypotheses are usedoten in experiments in which investigators comparegroups

b'ectives : they oten appear in proposals or unding .

Hypothesis are used to state the relationship betweentwo variables and may be stated as :

+ull hypotheses : no relationship between twovariables.

+ondirectional hypotheses : we don6t (now or won6tspeculate about the direction o the relationshipbetween two variables.

/irectional hypotheses :7e state the direction o therelationship between two variables.

    &elationships speciy:

How the value o one variable changes in relation toanother.

0ay be either positive! negative! or the two variablesmay not have any relationship to one another.

Are not necessarily correlations. The type ofrelationship or association among variables isdetermined by the level of measurement of

    each of the two variables.

Qualitative research : $ualitative :inductive method- incorporates values and perspectives

o both researcher and participants .

8xploratory or bottom%up: the researcher generates a newhypothesis and theory rom the data collected .

    $ualitative research answers 9how and 9why #uestions or process .

Is used to prove or disprove whetherthere is a causal relationship betweentwo variables.

1an be expressed as a prediction or an

expected uture outcome. Is logically lin(ed to a research #uestion

    or theory

Hypothesis are used to state therelationship between two variables : Howthe value o one variable changes inrelation to another.

Analysis uses statistics, tables, and charts anddiscusses how what they show relates to thehypothesis.

Analysis involves extracting themes fromevidence and organizing data into themes andcategories to present a coherent, consistentpicture.
