33rd Sunday in Ordinary TimeNovember 18, 2018

Holy Hour Scheduled for November 25thDuring this particularly painful, challenging time in the life of our Church, both here in West Virginia and around the globe, the people of God are invited to gather simultaneously at parishes across the diocese for a Holy Hour of Adoration for Hope and Healing at 3:00 pm on November 25th.

As an extension of that Sunday’s Eucharistic celebrations of the Solemnity of Christ the King, this Holy Hour will offer another opportunity to encounter and worship Jesus, uniting Catholics across the Mountain State in prayer and petition to God for guidance, for signs of hope, and for the healing of all victims of abuse.

There are no shortcuts on the road to the healing of deep wounds, but the Christ who promised to “be with us always, until the end of the ages” (Matthew 28), is always here to accompany his beloved people along that difficult path. Let us come together in the real presence of Christ on November 25th as a pilgrim people, a people striving to walk closely with God.

For those unable to attend the Holy Hour, consider pausing for a few moments at 3:00 pm to pray in solidarity with those participating in the Holy Hour and with the whole Church in West Virginia.

Remembering the DeadDuring the month of November, we especially remember our beloved dead with prayers, thoughts and Mass intentions. We are called to “remember our sisters and brothers who have gone to their rest.” (Eucharistic prayer II) During November, we will have a remembrance book in the vestibule of the church. Please feel free to inscribe the names of those whom you wish to remember in this book. We will pray for all of these special people during the month of November. Please take a moment to look at this book and remember the those who have gone before us in your prayers. Again, thanks for all that you do for our parish.

Our Church Needs You!Would you be willing to sign up to pray one (1) decade of the rosary from now until the beginning of Advent (Dec. 2nd)? You pick the decade that you would pray each day. You may say: one Our Father, ten Hail Mary’s and one Glory Be while meditating on the one mystery of the rosary daily. You can pray this any time of the day, any place or any location. Let’s pray together for our church, our priests and for our leaders for the next 4 weeks. Join us! Sign-up sheets are in the hall. If you don’t make it in the hall to sign up, start anyway and you can sign up anytime.

Thanks From St. FrancisThe people of St. Francis de Sales Church recently sent us a thank you letter, expressing their appreciation for the donation our church sent after Hurricane Florence and the flooding that followed. The donation was put into a special fund called "the

Hurricane Florence Flood and Relief Fund" and all monies went toward helping people in their congregation recover from the devastation, many of

whom lost their homes and all their possessions. Our donation of $2,000 and the concern it expressed will help them in their struggle to recover. Thank you, brother and sisters, for caring.

A Thanksgiving PrayerEternal Spirit of Justice and Love, at this time of Thanksgiving, we would be aware of our dependence on the earth and on the sustaining presence of other human beings both living and gone before us. For them, we give thanksgiving. As we partake of Bread and Wine, may we remember that there are many for whom sufficient bread is a luxury, or for whom wine, when attainable, is only an escape. Let our thanksgiving for God’s bounty include a commitment to changing the world, that those who are now hungry may be filled and those without hope may be given courage. Amen.
