Gorse is a well loved 46’ historic traditional narrowboat, brimming with history and character. She was originally built by WJ Yarwood & Sons as a 70’ working boat for Fellows, Morton and Clayton circa 1948, entering the BW Fleet as Gorse No 240 cicra 1951. Circa 1960, she was shortened to her current length and converted into a hire boat. Her current owner has been in possession of Gorse since 1986. The boat has recently undergone major works to enclose the wood superstructure with steel plate, and this has been completed to a very high standard by Tim Carter at Dodford. The very cosy saloon is accessed via the large well deck. The whole boat has a lovely cottagy feel with Pine T&G throughout, eight portholes and two stoves (a Morso squirrel in the saloon and a range at the stern). The saloon is furnished with a large uphostered bench seat (converts to a second double berth) and a couple of cupboards and shelving. Next comes the L-shaped galley with a Vanette cooker, hob and grill, an Electrolux fridge and plenty of storage. There is also a roof hatch over. The shower is in a compact off corridor bathroom together with the porta potti loo and a folding up Thetford basin. The good size Engine Room comes next containing the impressive 1958 Ailsa Craig RL2 22hp engine. Side hatches (with steps) on port and starboard sides will allow plenty of opportunity for you to show off this engine whether cruising or stationary! There is also a pigeon box over to let in even more light and air. Finally the bedroom is at the stern with a fixed 6ft x 3ft 4inch berth. There are cupboards over the bed, a wardrobe at the base and storage underneath. The combined oven/stove range sits next to steps leading up to the trad stern deck and will keep you toasty whether tucked up in bed or steering from the helmsmans’ position. Hot water is provided by the Paloma gas boiler, and heating by the two stoves. There are two 110ah batteries on board and a single alternator. Boats like this do not come up for sale very often, she really is very special and deserves to be adored by new owner! Gorse 01327 342211 [email protected]
