United Kingdom9 June 2021: Stolen vehicles or equipment costs
fleet-based businesses an average of £12,250 each
year, new research from Verizon Connect reveals. For
businesses with more than 100 vehicles, the cost is
even higher, with the data suggesting fleets lose, on average,
£21,000 each year. The study also revealed that two in five
(40%) fleets had vehicles stolen that could not be recovered in
the past year, while 45% experienced theft of assets such as
tools, equipment, IT or cargo.

Ireland4 June 2021: Detectives are investigating if a
notorious armed robbery gang was behind the latest
Cash-in-Transit raid in the capital. Up to €50,000
was stolen after a worker was held at gunpoint
outside a post office in Crumlin. Gardaí raided the home of a
52-year-old criminal as part of the investigation into the terrifying
robbery. However, the stolen cash box and firearm used in the
incident weren’t recovered.

France10 June 2021: Three months after the theft of a Civil
Protection truck in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, another
very useful association has just been the victim of
criminals. The Secours Populaire in Val-d’Oise was
the target of a well-organized gang which left behind the wheel
of a logoed truck. Three hooded individuals got out of a car and
broke into the departmental premises of the charity located in
Epluches.

10 June 2021: A company in Varennes-Vauzelles
(Nièvre) was the victim of theft—the workshop
portal was dismantled and tools were stolen. This is
the fourth time since 2018 the company has been
targeted by thieves or vandalism, according to Le Journal du
Center.

9 June 2021: A burglary took place at a business
in Chalezeule. Individuals got their hands on 1.5
tonnes of aluminum. The gendarmes went to the
scene and opened an investigation. After the group
of individuals grabbed a significant amount of aluminum, they
then fled by ripping off the fence surrounding the company.

7 June 2021: After several months of investigations,
the gendarmes of Marmande arrested five people
who had been stealing construction machinery
since 2019.

3 June 2021: It has become an organized crime
“like any other.” In France, the theft of classified
grands crus wines is worrying. Justice speaks of a
“criminal phenomenon” in the Bordeaux region in
particular, where between 2018 and 2021, a large robbery took
place every month and a half on average.

Italy10 June 2021: A theft occurred in Rivignano,
where thieves targeted a farm. After forcing a
lock, they entered a warehouse and took away an
air compressor, pesticides and a pressure washer. The owner
of the farm noticed the theft in the morning and immediately
called the police. The overall damage amounts to over €2,000.
Criminals also broke into the shed of a farm in Passons, in the
municipality of Pasian di Prato. They broke the padlocks of the
external fence and once inside they forced the cabinet where
the pesticides and products used to fertilize were placed.

10 June 2021: An armed assault against
a truck carrying drinks occurred in the area
between Bari airport and the San Paolo
district, near the Ciaky cinema. Three armed
thugs with covered faces, aboard a gray subcompact, flanked
the driver of the heavy vehicle, forcing him to leave the truck.
The driver was then hooded and made to board the car, while
one of the members of the gang took possession of the vehicle.
After about an hour and a half, the driver was released in a
countryside area in Noicattaro. The man, unharmed but strongly
shaken, still managed to raise the alarm, reaching the police
station.

9 June 2021: They wanted to take advantage of
the calm of a quiet Sunday in June for an apparently
easy theft: stealing electrical material—including
copper wire—from a disused warehouse in the
industrial area of Spilimbergo. They did not think they had to
deal with the carabinieri who, during a routine check, noticed the
suspicious movements neat the company premises. Thanks to
their intuition, three arrests were made.

7 June 2021: 360° checks on what is happening
in the John Paul II Cancer Institute in Bari (on
the work of doctors, nurses, health workers, but
also on goods and warehouse stocks) has led
to an arrest and investigation. First, with the arrest for extortion
of an oncologist; then, with the investigation into the theft of
medicines and medical material involving six people.

South Africa8 June 2021: Pretoria police have arrested ten
alleged Cash-in-Transit robbers and confiscated
an undisclosed amount of cash, twelve firearms
and ammunition. A cash van was reportedly forced
off the road by a car on the Majakaneng Bridge. A police
spokesperson said the suspects then allegedly forced open
the vehicle. She added “while they were taking the money from
the cash van, an escort vehicle driver engaged the suspects,
resulting in a shootout.”

6 June 2021: The Hawks in the Free State are
investigating a Cash-in-Transit robbery after a
security vehicle was bombed near Virginia.
According to the Hawks spokesperson, two security
guards were going to collect and deliver money when they were
attacked by four suspects on the R730 between Welkom and
Virginia. According to information received, the suspects shot at
the vehicle until it stopped. The security guards were instructed
to step outside the vehicle, and their firearms were confiscated.
The vehicle was set on fire and an undisclosed amount of cash
was taken.

5 June 2021: A former branch manager of a
Gqeberha timber company has been sentenced
to twelve years imprisonment for theft amounting
to over R1.4 million. He was working as the branch
manager at the timber wholesaler, and whilst in charge of sales,
marketing, invoicing, and stock control, he stole company stock
between January and December 2018.

4 June 2021: The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime
Investigation unit in Mpumalanga has arrested the
second suspect linked to a Cash-in-Transit heist,
murder and the theft of motor vehicles. According
to the Hawks, the suspect was nabbed last week after a police
investigation linked him to the above-mentioned charges.

China7 June 2021: Severe bottlenecks that have snarled
major ports in the U.S. and Europe through the
pandemic are now disrupting operations at a key
export hub in China that could last until the end of
this month and lead to further rise in ocean freight rates. Yantian
International Container Terminals, an operator of terminals at
Shenzhen port, was partially closed late last month for a few
days after some dockworkers were among those confirmed with
COVID amid an outbreak in Guangdong Province. The facility
is facing challenges due to efforts by the local authorities to
disinfect and enforce quarantine measures that have led to labor
shortages.

India6 June 2021: A truck laden with chilli bags
that was stolen on 29 May was recovered
by the Guntur Urban Police. The truck (AP07
TW7227) was stolen from a weighbridge centre
in Guntur. CCTV footage from the area showed two persons
breaking into the vehicle and driving away in it. A police team
tracked the vehicle to Isukapalem in Sattenapalli. After identifying
the accused using tower dump location software, the police
zeroed in on them.

Brazil8 June 2021: Members of a gang that had
worked for almost two years stealing loads of
meat from trucks and taken the goods to the
Navy Quarter in Itaboraí were arrested.

7 June 2021: The Civil Police dismantled a cargo
theft scheme in action in the states of Rio de
Janeiro, Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais. Three
people were arrested. The investigation began six
months ago, detailing how criminals operated. The truck drivers
were kept under arrest, while the stolen truck was taken to
Campos dos Goytacazes city, in North Fluminense region (Rio
de Janeiro State).

7 June 2021: The Municipal Civil Guard (GCM)
of Itapecerica da Serra city (Sao Paulo State)
recovered a stolen truck and saved the lives of two
passengers who were held hostage in Jardim do
Éden. According to information, criminals were interested in the
vehicle’s load valued at more than R$8,000.00.

6 June 2021: A group of three men assaulted
a truck loaded with firearms and ammunition in
Abelardo Luz city, in the west of Santa Catarina
State. The driver and his assistant were locked inside the
vehicle and part of the load was taken away. After reporting
what happened to the police, the driver and the assistant
were arrested in the act. According to the police, the weapons
were legalized, but the company did not have authorization for
transportation.

Mexico10 June 2021: Authorities in San Luis Potosi
recovered thirty-two tons of cement reported stolen
on 6 June. The stolen truck and cargo were located
the day after the theft near kilometer 29+900 of
Highway MEX-49.

9 June 2021: Over seven million live ammunition
cartridges were stolen in San Luis de la Paz,
Guanajuato when two trailers were intercepted by
cargo criminals while travelling on highway MEX-57D. Authorities
were alerted to the theft when the GPS communication was lost
with the trucks as well as the officers escorting them.

6 June 2021: Authorities recovered over MXN
$400,000 worth of oral hygiene products in the
State of Mexico. The load was stolen as it
was transiting on Av. Lopez Portillo in Tultitlan. Authorities were
able to trace the load back to a property in Tultepec, where a
male was found offloading the stolen cargo into a residence.

U.S. & Canada10 June 2021: California has processed a record-
breaking 10 million shipping containers within a
12-month period and is expected to reach 10.8
million containers by the end of June.

7 June 2021: Multiple Arizona roadways were
closed due to two major wildfires that erupted east
of Phoenix and near Top-of-the-World, burning
through tens of thousands of acres.
