DESCRIPTION

The SAT-1 MK-II training system provides the basic principles and an in-depth demonstration of the concepts used in a satellite television reception system. The SAT-1 MK-II is designed as a self-contained, satellite television reception system and incorporates all elements necessary to perform the recommended experiments. The training system contains in addition to the main components of the reception system, a set of measuring instruments and accessories required for the accomplishement of all activities in the course of training.

EXPERIMENTS

1. Structure and Operation of Satellite TV Reception System • Familiarization with system components • Connect the main receiver components:

- 2 way power divider (splitter) - Analog/Digital Receiver - C/Ku LNB’s - Dish Actuator - Strength Field Meter - Television - Oscilloscope

2. Set up receiver channelsCarrier to Noise (C/N), Digital Channel Power (DCP) and AGC measurements • Measure the C/N in digital channel with optimal satellite beam alignment • Measure the C/N in digital channel with moving dish • Measure the C/N in analog

channel with optimal satellite beam alignment

• Measure the C/N in analog channel with moving dish • Measure the DCP in digital

channel with optimal satellite beam alignmen Measure the DCP with moving dish alignment Measure analog AGC output with optimal satellite beam alignment

• Measure analog AGC output with moving dish

• Measure digital AGC output with optimal satellite beam alignment

• Measure digital AGC output with moving dish

3. Bit Error Rate (BER) and Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) measurements in a Digital Channel • Measure the BER in a digital

channel • Measure the Post Viterbi

BER • Measure the Reed Solomon

Uncorrected BER (RU) • Measure the SNR

4. Satellite Transmission - Channels Bandwidth, Transponders • Record list of transponders

available in a specific satellite • Measure the Gain of the

channels in dBuv • Measure the channel

bandwidth of each transponder

5. Satellites Link Budgets – Measurements and Calculations • Calculate the elevation of the

dish • Calculate the azimuth • Calculate the path distance to

satellite • Calculate the wavelength • Calculate the free space loss • Calculate the noise factor F,

of the LNB • Calculate the total system

temperature Calculate the noise bandwidth (NB)

• Calculate the figure of merit G/T

6. Video Signals in the Reception

system • Display a complete TV line • Identify the following parameters:

- Width and amplitude of the line synchronization signal - Time interval between two consecutive synchronization signals

- Location and amplitude of the color sync burst

- Location and amplitude of the video signal

• Display one TV field • Identify the following

parameters: - Width and amplitude of the field synchronization signal -Time interval between two consecutive signals - Shape and amplitude of the video signals

Main Satellite Components

- Analog/Digital Positioner Receiver

-Antenna with 2.7 meter diameter, complete with all associated components LNB for Ku wide band and C band

Measuring Instruments - Field Strength Meter (950-2150MHz) - 60MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope - DMM 3 ½ Digits

Accessories - Television set with Multisystem characteristics Manual The SAT-1 MK-II is supplied with a well-organized and readily comprehensive manual containing theory and experiments. TeleSimTeleSimTeleSimTeleSim

TeleSim is a unique software package for teaching Analog and Digital Telecommunications. The software affords every studentthe possibility to learn, design, understand, and evaluate scenarios in telecommunications through interactive on-screen simulations. TeleSim enables each student to explore and investigate the effects of various Telecommunications systems in a controlled problem-solving situation.

Unique TeleSim is the most advanced software product for teaching Telecommunications. Students in technical and vocational schools, universities or any training organization that uses advanced communications systems can use TeleSim. By using TeleSim, students easily grasp the relevant effects and framework of the material covered. TeleSim bridges the gap between theory and practice, restoring creativity in communication courses, and is the key to learning and success. Product Content TeleSim contains 12 independent modules organized into 2 courses (Analog and Digital), and an additional special course summarizing both. Each module allows students to learn, design and simulate different communication systems according to the material covered.

Innovative TeleSim caters to all student levels, from the inexperienced to the professional, as the relevant information is presented through four different learning techniques, which are: 1. Interactive design of an

integrated communication system

2. Solving step-by-step assignments

3. Tutorials 4. Animated theory

review. The student or the teacher can control these different modes of use. Simulation Lab TeleSim transforms a student’s regular PC into a sophisticated and functional laboratory. The software incorporates a powerful graphic simulator with analog and digital components and output devices. This allows for excellent experimentation by every student without the need for additional expensive equipment.
