*Call to Worship. from Psalm 34:1-3

Leader: I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be on my lips.

People: My soul makes its boast in the LORD;let the humble hear and be glad.

Leader: Magnify the LORD with me!

People: Let us exalt his name together!

*Your Great Name We Praise

Immortal, invisible God, only wise, In light inaccessible, hid from our eyes, Most holy, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, your great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting and silent as light, Not wanting or wasting, you rule us in might; Your justice like mountains high soaring above Your clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

Chorus: Most holy, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, your great name we praise.

All life comes from you, Lord, to both great and small. In all life you live, Lord, the true life of all. We blossom and flourish but quickly grow frail; We wither and perish but you never fail.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, Your angels adore you, all veiling their sight; All praise we would render, O Father of grace, Till one day in splendor we see face to face! (Chorus)

Music: Bob Kauflin Lyrics: Walter Chalmers Smith

*Prayer of Adoration (followed by The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.

*Affirmation of Faith Heidelberg Catechism, Question 123

Leader: What do we ask for when we pray, “thy kingdom come”?

People: “Thy kingdom come” means “rule us so by your word and Spirit, that we may submit ourselves more and more to you; preserve and increase your church; destroy the works of the devil, and all violence which would exalt itself against you; and also all wicked counsels devised against your holy word; till the full perfection of your kingdom takes place, wherein you will be all in all.”

Ever Be

Your love is devoted like a ring of solid gold, Like a vow that is tested, like a covenant of old. And your love is enduring through the winter rain And beyond the horizon with mercy for today. Faithful you have been and faithful you will be; You pledge yourself to me and it’s why I sing.

Chorus: Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips. (4x)

You father the orphan, your kindness makes us whole; And you shoulder our weakness and your strength becomes our own. Now you’re making me like you, clothing me in white, Bringing beauty from ashes, for you will have your bride Free of all her guilt and rid of all her shame And known by her true name, and it’s why I sing. (Chorus)

You will be praised. You will be praised. With angels and saints we sing, “Worthy are you, Lord.” (Repeat 3x) And it’s why I sing. (Chorus)

Prayer for Christ’s Church and the World

Psalm 130 (From Depths of Woe)

From the depths of woe I raise to thee the voice of lamentation; Lord, turn a gracious ear to me and hear my supplication; If thou iniquities dost mark, our secret sins and misdeeds dark,

O who shall stand before thee? (Who shall stand before thee?) O who shall stand before thee? (Who shall stand before thee?)

To wash away the crimson stain, grace, grace alone availeth; Our works, alas, are all in vain; in much the best life faileth; No man can glory in thy sight, all must alike confess thy might,

And live alone by mercy. (Live alone by mercy.) And live alone by mercy. (Live alone by mercy.)

Therefore my trust is in the Lord, and not in mine own merit; On him my soul shall rest, his word upholds my fainting spirit; His promised mercy is my fort, my comfort and my sweet support;

Page 5: from Psalm 34:1-3…Leader: Magnify the LORD with me! People: Let us exalt his name together! *Your Great Name We Praise Immortal, invisible God, only wise, In light inaccessible,

I wait for it with patience. (Wait for it with patience.) I wait for it with patience. (Wait for it with patience.)

Though great our sins and sore our woes His grace much more aboundeth; His helping love no limit knows, our utmost need it soundeth. Our Shepherd good and true is he, who will at last his Israel free

From all their sin and sorrow. (All their sin and sorrow.) From all their sin and sorrow. (All their sin and sorrow.)

Music: Christopher Miner Lyrics: Martin Luther

Prayer of Confession

Merciful God,you pardon all who truly repent and turn to you.

We humbly confess our sins and ask for your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God.

Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness.In your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Help us to find our joy in you. Amen.

*Words of Assurance Romans 5:8-9

Minister: God demonstrates his own love for us in this:While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!

*All Must Be Well

Through the love of God our Savior, all will be well! Free and changeless is his favor, all is well. Precious is the blood that healed us; Perfect is the grace that sealed us; Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us; All must be well.

Though we pass through tribulation, all will be well! Ours is such a full salvation, all is well. Happy still in God confiding; Fruitful if in Christ abiding; Steadfast through the Spirit's guiding; All must be well.

We expect a bright tomorrow; all will be well! Faith can sing through days of sorrow, all is well.

On our Father's love relying, Jesus every need supplying, Yes in living or in dying; all must be well. (Repeat)

The Sermon “Because of the Hardness of Heart” Crown and Cross

*Yet Not I But through Christ in Me

What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer; There is no more for heaven now to give. He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom; My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace. To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus; For my life is wholly bound to his. Oh how strange and divine; I can sing: all is mine! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

The night is dark, but I am not forsaken; For by my side, the Savior, he will stay. I labour on in weakness and rejoicing; For in my need, his power is displayed. To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me; Through the deepest valley he will lead. Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven; The future sure, the price it has been paid. For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon And he was raised to overthrow the grave. To this I hold, my sin has been defeated. Jesus now and ever is my plea. Oh the chains are released; I can sing: I am free! Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

With every breath I long to follow Jesus, For he has said that he will bring me home. And day by day I know he will renew me Until I stand with joy before the throne.

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus; All the glory evermore to him. When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat: Yet not I, but through Christ in me! (Repeat)
