COMMUNION ANNOUNCEMENT Here at Christ Lutheran Church we believe, teach and confess that Jesus Christ is the only Savior from sin, and that He alone is the way to eternal life. We believe, teach, and confess that in the Sacrament of Holy Communion the true body and blood of Jesus Christ is received along with the elements of bread and wine, and that the reception of this gift in faith is a means through which God Himself forgives our sins, strengthens us in faith, and unites us as His children. If your own personal beliefs are in complete harmony with these Biblical truths, if you are a baptized Christian who has been instructed in these Lutheran confessions, if you recognize the reality of sin in your life and desire to receive God’s forgiveness, and if you acknowledge that receiving Holy Communion at our table expresses an implied unity with us in the body of Christ you are welcome to join us at the table of our Lord.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of Christ Lutheran Church is to connect people to Jesus through:

● Inspirational worship ● Loving service ● Caring fellowship ● Relevant education

so that they may know, and grow in, his love.

EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST July 26, 2020

AS WE GATHER We are among the many who have struggled to believe in a world where it seems our enemies triumph and our own wills fail us. But the promises of God are not only for the present. They point us to that which is to come. To know the Lord is to know His promises without having seen them fulfilled. Gathering around His Word and Table, we meet those promises. His voice speaks of what will be, and in the flesh and blood of Christ, we taste the future that will come by His power and promise. To know the Lord in this way is to enjoy comfort in trial and to have hope that will endure the tests that come.

PRESERVICE MUSIC “Holy Ground” H.I.S. Band We are standing on holy ground, And we know that there are angels all around. Let us praise Jesus now, We are standing in His presence on holy ground.

I am standing on holy ground, And I know that there are angels all around. I will praise Jesus now, When I’m standing in His presence on holy ground. In His presence on holy ground. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION

Pastor: Do good, O Lord, to those who hold fast to Your name People: and to those upright in heart. Pastor: But those who turn aside to their crooked ways, People: the Lord will lead away with evildoers. Silence for self-examination Pastor: Let us confess our sins to God, our Father. People: O Lord, have mercy upon us poor, miserable sinners. We have

offended You in thought, word, and deed. We have sinned against our neighbor. Spare us, O God, who confess our sins to You and who hide not our faults from Your eyes. Restore the penitent and forgive us all our sins according to the promise of Your mercy revealed to us in Jesus Christ, our Lord. As He suffered and died to cover our sins, cover us with His righteousness, and grant us grace that today and every day we live upright, sober, and godly lives to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.

Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. Through the mercy of God in Christ Jesus, our Savior, you have been made children of God in Baptism and live because of His mercy. As a called and ordained servant of Christ and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

HYMN “God Works in All Things This We Know” H.I.S. Band By Rev. John C. Stennfeld Text: Romans 8:28

Tune: St. Anne God works in all things, this we know, For thus, His word, declares, To bring about the good for those Who are His heav’nly heirs. Those God foreknew, He also chose, To be just like His son, To live with Him in heav’n above, When life on earth is done. What shall we say when troubles come, When we have suffered loss? If God be for us, we still claim The vic’try of the cross! (please rise)

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. HYMN OF THE DAY “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” H.I.S. Band

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;

Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, Hail Thee as the sun above.

Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away;

*Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays,

Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise;

Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow flashing sea,

Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest,

Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean-depth of happy rest!

Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine;

Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the Joy Divine. Mortals, join the mighty chorus Which the morning stars began;

Father love is reigning o’er us, Brother-love binds man to man.

Ever singing, march we onward, Victors in the midst of strife;

Joyful music lifts us sunward In the triumph song of life. "Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee" Text: Henry Van Dyke, 1852-1933, alt. Music: Ludwig van Beethoven, 1770-1827; adapt. Edward Hodges, 1796-1867 Text and music: Public domain.

“It is No Secret” H.I.S. Band

The chimes of time ring out the news; another day is through. Someone slipped and fell, was that someone you? You may have longed for added strength, your courage to renew. Do not be disheartened, for I have news for you. Chorus: It is no secret what God can do What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you. With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you, It is no secret what God can do.

There is no night, for in His light you’ll never walk alone. Always feel at home wherever you may roam. There is no power can conquer you, while God is on your side. Just take Him at His promise; don’t run away and hide. (Chorus)
