    I. Executive Summary

      This report is meant to detail the functions of adsden!s "edia #enter$ including

    organi%ation$ mission$ goals$ center acti&ities$ and o&erall e&aluation' This report (ill )e

    concerned only (ith these specific items programs$ and resources$ and accolades located

    (ithin adsden *lementary school$

    adsden itself located in the inner+city of do(nto(n ,a&annah$ eorgia' It has -ust

     )een re)uilt from the ground up$ (hich has allo(ed &arious technology such as

    Promethean .oards and mounted pro-ectors to )e installed in each room' /ther

    technology that is a&aila)le that only in each room )ut also the media center include

    document cameras$ Apple T0s$ iPads$ #hrome)oos$ eo t(os$ and a &ariety of soft(are

    as (ell as digital )oos' Though many #/, and #hrome)oo carts are around the

    school$ they all originate and are in&entoried )y the "edia #enter'

    adsden currently ser&ices t(o main pu)lic housing comple4es$ and since a more

     )lended curriculum has )een used$ data indicates a positi&e increase in standardi%ed state

    scores' 5ue to the fact that demographics consist of lo(er+income )racet 618 free

    lunch Title 1 funds ha&e )een used to in&est in technology and resources to help close

    the learning gap' This consists of ##P, aligned soft(are programs$ as hard(are such

    as iPads$ #hrome .oos$ and eo!s' These are in&entoried and supported )y the ;i)rary

      adsden!s "edia #enter ser&es as the @heart of the school!s print and

    instructional technology resources' As a Title 1 school$ (e ha&e access to funding

    (hich allo(s us to ha&e state of the art technology and resources' It is up to the

    media center to pro&ide support and proper integration into current curriculum across

    all grade le&els (ithin the school' .elo( is the e4act mission and goals set for(ard

     )y adsden!s "edia #enter' .oth the mission and goal re&ol&e around the main

    o&erarching use and implementation of a )lended curriculum utili%ing )oth district

    and school(ide programs and technology aligned (ith the #ommon #ore eorgia

    Performance ,tandards' It is the responsi)ility of the "edia ,pecialist and

    Instructional #oach to pro&ide ongoing training and support of resources for

    successful and effecti&e use for student success' Further utili%ation$ support$ and

    funding of the media center has also )een pro&ided )y a &ariety of staeholders such

    as administration$ teachers$ community )usinesses$ and &olunteers'

    "ission$

    The mission of this school!s li)rary and media program is to colla)orate (ith teachers

    and others to pro&ide appropriate resources and meaningful learning e4periences for

    students to ad&ocate reading impro&ement and to foster an interest in literature and

    technology'

    Goals$

    The main goal of the li)rary and media center staff is to @"ae the #onnection

     )et(een the school li)rary and academic achie&ement' In order to achie&e this goal

    started originally as a teacher' ,he has a &ariety of responsi)ilities that go )eyond the

    sphere of -ust print items$ (hich is a common misconception )y many today' 5ue to the

    e4tensi&e amount of hard(are and soft(are at this site$ "rs' =olman is tased (ith

    organi%ing$ in&entorying$ dispersing$ as (ell as supporting much of the hard(are (ithin

    the school' These include rades C+? iPads for each class$ #hrome)oos also for first

    through fifth grades$ #/,$ digital cameras$ Promethean .oard and pro-ectors$ and

    &arious other pieces of technology and hard(are'

      Professional de&elopment is &ital$ as adsden has adopted #ompass and &arious other

    computer programs that are monitored )y the district$ and are to )e utili%ed )y teachers

    and students on a daily )asis' As the school!s ;i)rary "edia ,pecialist$ organi%ing

    training$ as (ell as colla)orating (ith teachers to create and utili%e properly aligned

     presentations or online>interacti&e presentations that help support current state curriculum

    and standards is done on a regular )asis )y "rs' =olman'

    #. Center Activities 

    The media center at adsden ser&es this school (ith a multitude of acti&ities as (ell

    as ser&ices' "ain acti&ities )esides the dealing of checing out )oos$ and normal li)rary

     procedures$ includes area for a colla)oration and group (or$ as (ell as meeting places

    for 21st+century$ Dunior achie&ement$ and lo&e mentor tutoring' The li)rary is open e&ery

    day from E:3 until dismissal at 3:3'

    The "edia #enter also has a large area (ith a Promethean for colla)orati&e and (hole

    group lessons' These are used regularly )y )oth "rs' =olman (hen teaching a)out

    information fluency$ or )y other teachers (ho (ant to )e a)le to pool resources in the

    media center itself' Also$ and dad since media center$ (e ha&e a teacher resource room

    (here teachers are a)le to chec out &arious manipulati&es and resources for classroom

    use$ as (ell as the normal laminating imprinter areas' ,ince adsden is so technology

    rich$ the media center has a large computer area that is used for #ompass ;earning 6since

    it!s used e&ery day at our site and &arious online modules teachers may (ant to utili%e if

    our computer la) is )usy'

      adsden!s "edia #enter also houses our Parent #enter that offers &arious support and

    classes to parents on ho( to help their child succeed' This also includes parent classes

    and hands+on acti&ities'

    #I. Evaluation

      Re&ie(ing adsden to media center$ it seems to )e achie&ing all the go

    set forth as stated a)o&e' Resources are a&aila)le for )oth teachers and

    students$ students are a)le to ha&e a (elcoming atmosphere to do their

    research as (ell as chec out )oos and other items such as periodicals' I

    taled (ith "rs' =olman$ and (e )oth agree though that the media center

    can )e utili%ed )etter than ho( it currently is' e )oth )elie&e it needs to )e

    more accessi)le throughout the day for classes as (ell as teachers' Also$

    in&iting more staeholders in the community is a goal "rs' =olman (ould

    lie to achie&e' This may)e include authors for e4ample$ to do real laugh or 

    to tal a)out their e4periences' 5igital storytelling and &arious genres of the

    month might also )e popular to )ring in more students as (ell as teachers'

    The goal is to increase colla)oration )et(een teachers and this media

    specialist in media center' This can only )e done )y changing the &ie(sThat

    others in the school may ha&e a)out (hat the media center is and its function

    o&erall' This in itselft is )reaing a(ay from the normal stereotype of (hat a

    media center is' ,ince (e are stri&ing to )e a )lended curriculum school$

    "rs' =olman is trying to mae the li)rary the center of not only )oos )ut

    technology as (ell$ include an independent used )y students (hether alone

    or in small group acti&ities'

    /&erall$ the media center at adsden is doing incredi)le -o) (ith the students and the

    staff' As time continues$ or resources are )eing added$ it can continue to achie&e a fully

     )lended technological curriculum that (ill gi&e our students the resources they need to

    succeed in a 21st century school'
