and Lutosławski and Penderecki: Complete Violin and Piano Works, to critical acclaim (‘delivered by both artists in sweeping style’, BBC Music Magazine). In 2020, the Duo recorded Beethoven’s complete sonatas for piano and violin to mark the composer’s 250th anniversary.Lady Elgar heard the violin sonata emerge as it was composed, describing it thus: ‘wonderful new music, different from anything else of his…. wood magic. So elusive & delicate’. The Strauss sonata was conceived more in orchestral terms, with its verve, sweep and concerto-like piano part. The outer movements are almost operatic in their broad proportions and impassioned rhetoric, with an enchanting central movement of Schubertian grace. PROGRAMME■ Elgar Violin Sonata in E minor, op. 82 ■ Strauss Violin Sonata in E flat major, op. 18■ Elgar Chanson de nuit ■ Elgar Chanson de matin
