Many of the Fathers of the Church, such as St. Augustine and St. John Chrysostom, con- sidered prayers for souls in purgatory to be essential. Remember that our prayers for souls in purgatory, along with our sacrifices and sufferings bared with grace, can shorten their time there (and perhaps ours as well). Christmas is known to be one of the biggest days of the year for the release of souls from purgatory to heaven. What better giſt can we give them than our prayers? 14 WAYS TO PRAY FOR THE HOLY SOULS IN PURGATORY 1.Offer up your Holy Communions for the souls in purgatory. 2.Have Masses said for your departed loved ones, especially on the anniversary of his or her death. 3.Pray e Way Of e Cross for Souls in Purgatory. 4.Pray the special Holy Souls Rosary. Amen.” 10.Visit a cemetery: Pray over the graves of your departed loved ones, or visit a random graveyard and pray for those who may have no one to pray for them. Simply doing this gains a partial indulgence for those in purga- tory. 11.Eucharistic Adoration: visit the Blessed Sacrament to make acts of reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on behalf of those in purgatory. 12.Sacrifices: practice small acts of self-deni- al throughout your day and offer these pen- ances up for the poor souls. 13.Special prayers: roughout your day, of- fer up short and spontaneous prayers (ejacu- latory prayers) for the holy souls. 14.Repent of your offenses against God and go to confession: Confessing your own sins makes your prayers for souls of others more effective.
