In science, we were using the steps of the scientific method to figure out what our “mystery mineral” was. First things first, I examined it using some of my senses. My mineral was very, no I mean very sparkly! The mineral had a very opaque gold color, and had little holes in it in some places. Then, from my examination, I made a hypothesis. My mineral was either pyrite or Autunite because it looked like both of them but pyrite was a better match. I knew it was pyrite right after I got it. Pyrite is the scientific name for fool’s gold. For the most part, I found that the scratch test helped me identify my mineral the most because if I did not know that the streak was greenish black, I would have picked something else. In conclusion, my hypothesis of my “mystery” mineral was the exact mineral that I guessed pyrite. I loved this experiment and I want to do another experiment like the mystery mineral again.

  • In science, we were using the steps of the scientific method to figure out what our mystery

    mineral was.

First things first, I examined it using some of my senses.

My mineral was very, no I mean very sparkly!

The mineral had a very opaque gold color, and had little holes in it in some places.

Then, from my examination, I made a hypothesis.

My mineral was either pyrite or Autunite because it looked like both of them but pyrite was

    a better match.

I knew it was pyrite right after I got it.

Pyrite is the scientific name for fools gold.

For the most part, I found that the scratch test helped me identify my mineral the most

because if I did not know that the streak was greenish black, I would have picked

    something else.

In conclusion, my hypothesis of my mystery mineral was the exact mineral that I guessed

    pyrite.

I loved this experiment and I want to do another experiment like the mystery mineral

    again.
