02 _PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

One of the most crucial questions of our time is: what are Universities for?

Beyond academic excellence, cross cultural studies and a very pragmatic approach, the European School of Economics aims to facilitate in each and every student a process of inner revolution, encouraging personal development through self-study and individual research into self-knowledge.

We need new schools... schools of responsibility for men and women who have a dream to realise. We need universities for pragmatic dreamers.

They’ll be the leaders of a new exodus... a “psychological exodus” of planetary proportions... Thousands of young people will abandon the slavery of the confl ictual logic of the old humanity in exchange for a vertical vision of a world founded on the ability to harmonise antagonisms.

The European School of Economics dreamed of a revolution... the birth of a new man, an original being; irreplicable, free from prejudice and fear, capable of harmonising the age-old apparent antagonisms between Economy and Ethics, Action and Contemplation, Financial Power and Love.

The world is as You Dream it

“The world is a physical projection of man’s psychology.”

No political party, religion or philosophical system can transform society from the outside. Only an individual revolution, a psychological re-birth, a healing of the inner being will take us towards individual freedom, global prosperity and peace.

“The world is such because you are such.”

Financial power and success in the world of events depend exclusively upon the condition of your inner being.Any fault in your being makes you weaker and poorer. Any crack in your dream shatters the foundations of your fi nancial power.Be always vigilant and totally aware of your inner states, because it is there that you can create and transform the world you are living in.

04 _RECTOR’S WELCOME 05

Conventional education which pervaded for centuries in the schools and universities

all over the world has created conformism, and has regimented young minds, pruning

away the fantasy, the vitality, and the search for one’s own uniqueness. Above all,

universities have become factories that produce employee-minded men and women,

job-fi llers worried about nothing more than fi nding a job and surviving. Our civilization

needs visionary leaders, pragmatic dreamers, Individuals.

The European School of Economics believes that only individuals can transform society.

...Beyond the pyramids of industry...the skyscrapers of fi nance...behind all that we

see and touch, all that to us now seems useful and beautiful that man had really

conquered...at the origin of every intuition, of every scientifi c achievement...there is

always the Dream of just one man...an individual.

ESE dedicates particular care and attention to each and every student. It has developed

an educational system that places the individual at the core of its activity. From day one,

lecturers and tutors help the student to focus on the achievement of his professional

goal by creating tailor-made programmes which combine work experiences and studies.

The excellence of the faculty, the innovative programmes, the international environment

and the unique placement programme realised in collaboration with 1500 leading

corporations make the European School of Economics a cutting edge business school

refl ected by one of the highest graduate employment rates in Europe.

In ESE, practical activity faithfully accompanies textbook study through internships

in the leading companies of the world. In this way, pupils escape from a sterile

indoctrination and let themselves be taken in by concrete projects that have been

moulded to their own professional dream under the guidance of ESE staff. It is here

that they learn to operate within organisational bodies of modern enterprises - in the

context of global economy, realising a real mini-career from the very fi rst year of study.

ESE has created an academic space without frontiers, a School of Economics which

allows its students the opportunity to study and work around the world.

Welcome to the European School of Economics.

06 _TEN REASONS TO STUDY AT ESE 07

Challenging learning environmentLearning takes place in a truly international environment embracing students from 70 different countries, fostering tolerance and understanding through healthy competition.

Flexible locationsThe Academic space has no frontiers in ESE as students can move to fi ve different campuses for a semester or for an entire year. London, New York, Milan, Rome and Florence/Lucca are the locations of the campuses.

Internship in global corporationsESE offers one of the most extensive and comprehensive internship programmes available today. The quality of the placement service is owed to the long established relationships that ESE has been fostering with global companies for years. This means that students are given excellent opportunities to enter the job market and gain exposure.

Unique blend of theory and practiceUnlike trandtional Masters programmes which concentrate on academic knowledge and research the ESE Masters perfectly blend theory and practice to achieve ESE ultimate goal which is to have truly employable graduates at the end of their course of study.

A winning philosophyLove what you do – do only what you love. This sentence truly embodies the winning philosophy of the School where new ideas thrive and contribute to teaching each student the importance of being an individual visionary person capable of nurturing a dream of global proportion thus contributing to change the destiny of the planet and reconcile opposites. Young people become entrepreneurs and managers acquiring the moral standing, ethic principles, visionary leadership and global culture required to fulfi ll their professional future roles.

Small classesLearning in ESE is an individual and exciting experience owing to the small size of the student cohorts and the excellent ratio (4/1) students/teachers. This offers the students a personal and tailored learning experience.

The FacultyDedicated and professional academic staff guide the students throughout their studies offering guidance and individual attention. Faithful to the practical vocation of the School the ESE faculty combines excellent academic skills with everyday business practice. The students therefore enjoy the benefi t of academic knowledge and state of the art practice in the various areas of business.

Visiting Professors-PersonalitiesIt is a tradition of ESE to invite prominent personalities from the world of business and culture to visit and lecture the students. Many have been the Nobel prizes and renowned business tycoons who have spoken to the ESE cohort adding a winning perspective to the students’ knowledge.

Rolling Admission and starting datesThere are three intakes a year for the Masters programme, namely Autumn, Winter and Spring. The intakes are distributed on fi ve campuses to allow students to enter the programme at any given time. Students need to check intake dates for the individual campus of their choice.

The ESE Foundation Scholarship programThe Foundation helps those deserving students whose merits are undisputed and who need additional fi nancial support. International Scholarships in ESE are granted on a need and merit bases to encourage academic excellence and sustain ESE ambition to foster a global community of Scholars.

Dissertation

The structure of the Masters programmes is modular. Applicants with any background other than Economics, Management, Business, Finance, Marketing will have to successfully complete the Foundation Programme (in its integrity or in part as agreed with the Academic Director of the campus) before admission to the MSc. The FOUNDATION PROGRAMME includes the following modules– Introduction to Economics (40 Hours) – QBM (40 Hours) – Marketing (40 Hours) – Advanced Business Structures (40 Hours) – E-Business (40 Hours) Each of the modules consists of 40 class hours and 60 individual study hours.

Every module of the MSc programme (core and specialization) is worth 7.5 ECTS credits (15 UK Credits).

This innovative course of studies with its three specialisations in Finance, Management and Marketing represents an ideal blend of a robust British post graduate Degree with the more continental perspective on present days issues in the world of business.

The curriculum includes a set of core courses followed by a set of specialized modules. The internship follows the fi rst and second terms. A sophisticated research module which will sustain the students when writing the fi nal dissertation. The programme is rigorous but creative, demanding but exciting.

Different from any other Masters Programmes on the market which are solely concentrated on Academic research, the ESE product offers the unique opportunity to gain practical experience through the internship stressing the vocation of the Business School to produce graduates who are immediately employable.

The Faculty of the Masters programme is highly qualifi ed and, at the same time, almost always engaged in business practice . This guarantees students an updated and modern approach to the various subjects of the curricula selected.

It is a tradition in ESE to invite guest lecturers and visiting professors of acclaimed fame. Nobel prizes and personalities from the world of international business add value to the teaching of the Faculty and expose students to the pinnacles of excellence in their own fi eld.

Students learn in small groups where individual attention is given to each and everyone of them. They learn to work in teams whilst their leadership skills improve. The international cohort offers a unique opportunity to gain a global view of business thanks to the input of students coming from over 70 different countries.

As work experience is not a requirement to be admitted to the Masters Programme students have a unique opportunity to gain such experience thanks to ESE, thus gaining exposure in the job market and additional skills and knowledge.

Students can move from one campus to another (according to the synchronization of the programmes) and experience different environments and cultures.. Mostly though they will experience the exciting and marvelous feeling of being in control of themselves and of their personal and professional growth in an environment which has been designed for that purpose alone.

14 _PHASE THREE - FOUR 15

PHASE THREE

In this third phase of the programme the student cohort follows the same curriculum. Students will take the Research Methods and Modelling Techniques worth 7.5 ECTS credits (15 UK credits) and will complete a three month internship at a company (7.5 ECTS or 15 UK Credits):

The Research Methods and Modelling Techniques module aims to further develop the research knowledge acquired by the student in Phase 1 within the Modern Business Research Methods module. A variety of research methods and methodologies are evaluated as to their suitability for diverse applications

The module provides students with an understanding of the data collection methods. Sophisticated technical analytic methods are introduced involving in many cases the use of computer-based research tools (e.g. search engines, qualitative and quantitative data analyzers). Students will be encouraged to contrast approaches in their relevant research area. Students will be able to produce a Research Proposal/Plan of a professional standard.

Students will also start their Internship Programme (3 months) worth 7.5 ECTS or 15 UK credits in a sector relevant to their chosen secialisation.

FINAL DISSERTATION

Once the students have completed the three phases listed above they will concentrate on their dissertation. The dissertation is worth 15 ECTS credits (30 UK credits): and will require at least 375 hours of individual study under the supervision of one tutor.

The primary objective of the dissertation is the development of a conceptual framework that is subsequently applied to a practical (international) management problem. The thesis will therefore contain two elements: knowledge (theory) and practice (application).

The rationale for the end-of-study is to expose students to a busines environment and provide them with the opportunity to apply theory to practical problems. relevant to their specialisation. The thesis should relate to the subjects covered within the programme, possibly to the major studies and address a practical management problem with an international business focus.
