There are many good things about it, for example, there are many subjects you get to have (e.g. Genius Hour, Art, Mathematics, English, Drama, Sport etc.) and in the subjects you get really fun and cool activities to do (like making a presentation about anything you want, weaving placemats out of paper etc.)! Personally, my most favourite subjects are Art and English; Art because we get to weave out placemats, which is really, really fun and English because we get to write poems, such as Blackout poems and Shape Poems, which involves loads of fun creativity. It is a very fun experience! By Leena 6/5A The Transition Program involves Stage 3 moving to different classrooms to learn different subjects. I enjoy the Transition Program because you get taught by different teachers and you also get extra homework. My favourite subject so far is Maths because you get to learn how to manage your money wisely. By Sheldon 6/5A More comments continued later in newsletter. FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRESENTATION DAY Our Presentation Day is to be held on Friday 7 December. There will be two separate Presentation Days. The Kindergarten – Year 2 Presentation Day will commence at 9:40am and conclude at approximately 11:00am. There will then be a half hour recess. The Year 3 – Year 6 Presentation Day will commence at 11:30am. The day is fast approaching and it is very apparent that parking is going to be a real issue. After talking with staff and parents, I am presenting the following suggestions as a way of addressing this issue.

1. Please consider walking to the Presentation Day, even if it is a little further than you would normally walk.

2. If you need to drive, ensure you leave plenty of time to find a parking space and walking time to get to the school hall.

3. If you are driving and know someone who lives within walking distance of the school, ask if you can park in their driveway.

4. Carpool with friends to limit the number of cars that will need to find parking spaces.

5. I am requesting that the Kiss and Drop Zone remain vacant throughout the day so that people can drop off the elderly or parents with young children outside the school and then move on. I will have staff in fluorescent vests controlling this area.

I look forward to your support in this matter.

STAFF UPDATE Next year will see a major change in staff at Epping Public School. We will farewell at least three staff members at the end of 2018. Mrs Van Amersfort and Mr Sherley have both been successful in gaining Assistant Principal Positions at Mowbray Rd and Artarmon PS respectively. Mrs Citer has secured a transfer to a school which will take her closer to her family. All three will be greatly missed but I will have more to say about their wonderful contributions to Epping Public School in the coming weeks. This week I will be meeting two teachers who have been appointed to Epping Public School. We also presently have advertisements for two more

classroom positions with interviews due to be held in two weeks’ time.

P&C FOLLOW UP MORNING TEA These meetings were designed to outline to parents the matters to arise from the P&C. I welcome those who come along. They are held in the recognition that some parents are unable to attend P&C Meetings. This is another way of keeping our community informed. Should you have an issue that relates to your child specifically then please contact the school office where you will be put in touch with the right person to help you.

VIDEOING STUDENTS It is a very difficult balancing act that I need to perform in parents or others videoing or photographing children. I recognise that parents want a keepsake of their children performing at school, but at the same time must ensure the school complies with privacy laws. At this point in time our policy requests that you only video or photograph your own child and that any photo or video is only used at home and never shared on Social Media. Failure to comply with this will result in videoing or photographing stopped for everyone. Please support us.

TALENT QUEST Once again we will be holding our end of year Talent Quest and I would like to thank Miss Lanser for organising this event. This has always been a very popular event, but as you would be aware our school population has skyrocketed. Due to the busy nature of the end of year we are still only able to give the equivalent time for the Quest but have many more prospective participants. I have taken the decision that we will need to limit the number of acts and some acts will be cut. As it is an annual event we will give preference to our older students. I am sorry for those who miss out this year but they will get an opportunity in the future. By John Ford

STAGE 3 TRANSITION CONTINUED….. Stage Three have been participating in the Transition Program, which is where we all move around for teachers and classes, just like high school. My favourite subject has been Ancient History where we are learning about Ancient Egypt. It has been a really fun experience for all of us, and have all enjoyed it a lot. By Eliza 6/5A

The Transition Program is a program where you pretend you're in high school. You actually have a Homeroom & then you go off to your classes. It’s really good because you can have an experience about what it’s like in high school & you can get ready for it. My favourite subject/activity is Language. By Michelle 6/5A The transition program has been a lot of fun so far. We’ve been doing different subjects such as Language and Drama, all with different teachers. It’s good because we get a feel of what high school will be like, and we learn more skills, such as being organised and being able to move around. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed transition week and I think it is a great opportunity for everyone. By Aarushi 6/5A

LIBRARY NEWS Please note that this week (Week 7) will be the last week that students will be able to borrow books for the year. It would be appreciated if students could please return all their borrowed books to the library by the end of Week 8 (Friday 7 December) so that a library stock take can be completed. Year 6 parents are asked to do a special check to ensure that all library books have been returned to the school before students leave for high school. Many thanks for your assistance. Penny Bulgin Relieving Teacher Librarian

COMBINED CHRISTMAS SERVICE All students who are in Catholic or Protestant Scripture Classes will attend the Combined Scripture Christmas Service on Tuesday 4

December. Due to the new regulations regarding SRE any student outside of this group who would like to attend the Combined Service must inform the class teacher in writing.

2019 SWIMMING CARNIVAL The annual swimming carnival is on 21 February 2019 (Week 4). Students in Year 2 who are turning 8 years old in 2019 and can swim at least 25m confidently without stopping in a recognised stroke, are invited to join Years 3-6 for the event. As the school continues to grow, we are now at the point where the organisation must now occur at this part of the year. As such, permission notes have been sent home today and must be returned by the end of Week 8. Swimming carnival coordinators, Mr Le, Mr Alice, Mrs Gibb and Miss Moon.

2018 PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION Last Friday, we held the finals of our Public Speaking Competition. The quality of the presentations was a wonderful reflection of the talent of our students and the ongoing development of all our students’ presentation skills over the years from Kindergarten to Year 6. We would like to congratulate the following winners and highly commended speakers:
