Our creative arts talents were also on show at the Stage 3 Art Exhibition. It was wonderful to see all students K-6 and many visitors come to see the fantastic artworks created. Our Director of Educational Leadership (DEL)- Ms Sharon Ford was impressed when I took her through the exhibition and she was able to meet some of our artists. Congratulations to our Stage 3 students and thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to visit our gallery.

Ms Ford, the DEL for Hornsby network, was also very impressed when she met our school executive team and 2 of our expert teachers Mrs Cairn and Mrs Parfett. She commented that our school plan was very cohesive and focussed on achieving our collective vision for our students. Next term, she hopes to bring the Executive Director of Schools to visit our school as an exemplar.

Congratulations are also extended to our successful Multicultural Public Speaking entrants- Kaitlyn 4B, Anu 4W, Caden 5L, Louise 6E. They spoke very well in the competition last Thursday and made our school proud. Caden was awarded Highly Commended for his speech -‘Dreaming for the future’ about his dream for a future where people do not make assumptions about each other based on appearances. Thank you to Mrs Burke for organising the event and accompanying our students. For a full report, please see later in this newsletter.

Epping HeightsPublic SchoolConfidence Resilience CreativityWe are fortunate to have so many talented teachers at our school. They not only are quality educators who explicitly teach curriculum, but they are also willing and able to share many extra curricular expertise areas such as sport, technology, dance, art, student leadership, debating, public speaking, choir, band and music, so our students benefit. Ms Kelly is one such teacher at our school. Her musical expertise is recognised by the Department of Education and she is regularly asked by the Creative Arts Unit to lead major state-wide events such as the School Spectacular, Primary Proms, Southern Stars and (as pictured here) conducting and accompanying the Festival of Choral Music.

REPORTSSemester One reports were sent home yesterday. We hope you enjoyed sharing your child’s successes with them.

Peer comparison reports are available on request via email from the Office.

MULTICULTURAL PERSPECTIVE PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION

Last Thursday 4 students competed in the NSW Mutlicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. They spoke very well on the following topics:

Kaitlyn 4BKaitlyn's topic was ‘Games bring us together’ and she focussed on video games. She gave kids a tip... next time your parents tell you to stop playing a multiplayer game like Minecraft, you can tell them you are not just playing, but engaging in a worldwide shared experience, bridging barriers of language and culture!

Anu 4WAnu's topic was ‘Kidpower’ and she spoke about kids such as, Malala Yousafzai, who has achieved amazing things as an activist for female education. She contrasted this with the power of small acts kids can do every day, like planting trees and buying less plastic.

Caden 5L - achieved Highly CommendedCaden's topic was ‘Dreaming for the future’ and he said even though he is third generation Australian, he is regularly asked "Where do you come from?' His dream is of a future where people do not make assumptions about each other based on appearances.

Lousie 6ELouise's topic was ‘Racism isn't just bullying’. She discussed the various forms of bullying that occur, and presented the Stolen Generations as one example of the devastating impact of racism. She hopes the children of today can stop racism in the future.

They all performed very well in the impromptu speeches as well- the Stage 2 topic was 'Trouble' and the Stage 3 topic was 'Breaking the rules'.
