EALD PARENT MORNING TEAIt was lovely to meet with some of our newly arrived families at the EALD parent morning tea last week. Thank you to Mrs Parfett, Miss Goh and Mrs Hallett who organised and led this inclusive event. Parents met our specialist English teachers and listened to information related to the support of those students who have very limited English.

BE RESPECTFUL, BE SAFEOur school community is a safe and respectful place where children can learn and thrive. I am proud that harmony exists at our school. Parents play a key role in many aspects of school life. Please remember that if you have an issue or concern about a child, the appropriate thing is to raise it with myself or my staff. It is never appropriate for a parent to approach another person’s child as adults are regarded as strangers. Please be safe and respectful and speak to teachers, the executive team or myself if you require support or have questions. Please read the full School Community Charter included with this email.

NOVEL CORONAVIRUS Thank you for the calm and respectful way in which you are helping at this time. As discussed at the P & C meeting today, it is important that as adults we focus on ensuring children feel happy and safe. When giving children factual, contextual and age appropriate information, be mindful of their level of worry or anxiety. As a school we will continue to communicate information to you to ensure the appropriate management of this matter when and as it is appropriate to do so. This information is sent on enews. For the latest information, please refer to the enews sent on 6 March. Please know that we are being provided with expert and timely advice to ensure the best outcome for everyone in our community. If you are unsure of the facts in relation to how our school is managing this issue, please contact the school directly so you get accurate information. Please email or call and address your concerns to the me, the Principal. This is obviously a time when things may develop quickly. Some parents have contacted the school and advised that they are keeping their child at home until further notice. Some parents have also advised that they do not wish for their child to attend particular excursions. At this time we have not been advised that there is sufficient risk to students to warrant these responses. As we do every year, our teachers continue to remind and teach students about safe health practices such as washing hands. Please support this learning at home by watching and discussing one of the many clips available on the internet clips such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMbCZfb5k3M&t=39shttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07YNCFlS0iIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr6GQN-z_2s

CANTEEN NEWSWe have received notice that our canteen which is currently run by Yummy Bears Kiosk will be closing at the end of this term. We wish to thank Tania and her team at the canteen for providing a wonderful service to our students. At today’s P & C meeting we discussed options related to the canteen service at our school. More information will be provided when it is available.

KISS AND DROP A large number of parents and grandparents are still waiting around until the 9:05a.m bell in the morning. This is now making it very hard for the teacher on duty to supervise the students. Please help build your child’s independence and help keep other students safe by dropping and kissing. Thank you for being respectful and being safe.

SEMESTER INVOICEEach year the Department of Education allocates funds to help run our school. This is called the School Budget Allocation Report. These funds cover basic costs in our school such as utilities, staffing, administration and equity funding. For more details about funding please visit https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/schools-fundingIn addition to this, Individual account statements were sent home last week. The school requests that you pay to cover the cost of additional programs, learning resources, excursions, incursions and sporting events. These costs (as outlined) directly support your child to access the full range of high quality learning experiences at our school.Payments can now also be made using enews.

Please complete the payment no later than 27 March. If you require support to pay, please contact myself or Mrs Carter (Administration Manager).

ROAD SAFETY I was contacted by Local Council last week and informed that, on one day alone, rangers issued 6 fines including demerit point losses to parents from our school who were not following road safety rules. They informed me that council rangers will be making spot safety checks over the coming weeks and months. Please ensure you follow the safety rules.

TELL THEM FROM ME STUDENT FEEDBACK SURVEY TERM 1

This term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

The survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours in Weeks 9 and 10. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form has been sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 20th March, 2020.

The consent form and FAQs are available in 23 languages. http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/images/FAQs/2020/TTFM_Student_Survey_FAQs_Parent_and_Carers_T12020.pdf

UNIFORM SHOP NEWSWinter UniformWe change to winter uniform for Term 2 and 3. Most winter items are available in stock now with the exception of long-sleeved polo shirts in sizes 4 – 10. They should be available this week sometime. (If you paced an order via Qkr last week or so, these will have been backordered for you).Second Hand UniformsWe have many second hand uniforms kindly donated to the P&C uniform shop by parents. If you are looking to save some money, or get a few spares, many of the uniforms are in very good wearable condition. These are priced at about 1/3 the new retail price. We have a rack available just inside the uniform shop at all times. All monies from second hand uniforms are returned to the school via the P&C.Price RisesInevitably, we will be making a few changes to prices of new items from Term 2. Most of these are small and a few items will actually be reduced. Current prices will apply for goods purchased or ordered by the end of this term so it is a good idea to get in with those winter purchases sooner rather than later – remember you can order easily via Qkr with no queues! (Items can be exchanged by leaving at the office or directly at the uniform shop)Qkr

If you have placed an order via Qkr and have waited more than 3 school days for your child to bring it home, please email [email protected] are left at the office for classes to collect so you may also like to ask your child to check there if they have not received it.

Recycled Bags

Please BYO bag to the uniform shop if you remember. Not always possible I know! If anyone finds themselves with excess, clean paper or plastic bags, the uniform shop would be grateful to have them. You can leave them under the table in the uniform shop anytime.
